Lets Take a look at the rise of Comic Book Movie, and ask us, is this a new thing? Or is it history repeating itself.
I decided to do a bit of research into this subject and off to the World Wide Web I went, now I don’t know if I was using the correct search phrases or not but I could not find very much in depth information on this subject at all, and it goes to show that the internet and Wikipedia is not the be all and end all to life, the universe, and the cosmic balance of all the is holy, A-Fucking-Men.
So after much thought, I knew in my heart that to recall all of the finer points of everything I have ever read about this subject was going to be difficult at best, so a hunting I went, though old shop inventory, the store room and my private collection, I just knew I had the very thing I needed somewhere in good old fashioned publication format.
And found it, the answer to everything you need to know but was afraid to ask.
With this in mind I will be posting various bits and bobs as and when I get the time on the whatevercomics Website.
But to get you going here are some of the things I hope to cover,
All live action Cinema,
Batman 1949
The Phantom 1943
Superman 1948
The King of the Serials Flash Gordon
Captain America 1944
Shazam 1941 (Anyone know what Shazam stands for?) I do and will post it at a later date.
And last but not least it’s Batman 1966.
So if you think that this is all new, and the movie world has after being asleep for a millennium has woken up and discovered comic book heroes, think again, if you think you are onto something so hip, so absolutely fabulous that just the mention that you read comics and know who Bruce Wayne is will not only impress your friends but get you the girl at the end of the evening, well it wont, well it might actually.
But the fact remains, there has always been a fascination for the costumed hero in Hollywood, hell there has always been a fascination for a costumed hero full stop, and if he is masked, or an alien, all the better.
All the time there are bad people in the world. Attacking Ming’s from out of space to the Tommy gun totting gangsters, there will always be room for a masked vigilante. To do what we cant do, and to do what the authorities would like to do, but cant, and that is to beat the fuck out of the perceived idea of the Criminal, (no not the little old lady who cant afford her council tax, or the unsuspecting motorist who in a moments lapse of concentration exceeds 32mph in a 30mph zone) I mean the big bad nasty bastards who would think nothing of cutting your head off, those who Rape, Murder, Pillage and become Presidents, you know the kind, you have seen them in your worst nightmares, some of you may have seen them in your worst (or best) fantasies, if so, you need help, you sicko.
And so I will end this little gem of an idea with this full colour Pic (took me ages to colour this in) of Superman himself.
