if i can think of it i may do one for the tudor times and a dark ages one, as web of fear says, the jess nevins books are well worth it and a 3rd should be out soon.

I'll have a look for the Jess Nevins books.

I think I would add Childe Rolande to you mediaeval one

I was thinking of doing a dark age one as one as well, so be interesting to see how similar / different they are.

Once you start, though it becomes hard to stop. We just kept going - "ooh, ooh, what about X.." randomly all afternoon

yeah i think that bringing childe rolande into it would add some strangeness to that post dark ages era, ok again with a little fiddleing one create a tudor one, this my go at one.

1.Soloman Kane
2.Dracula (ok this is more from the francis ford coppola movie then the book, but Dracula as a "young" vampire could be something fun to play with)
3.don quixote
4.will lawless
5.puck
6.faust

still working on the dark age one.

Hmmm

Dark ages is quite tricky - quite apart from where they exactly begin and end - but they all run into each other's stories anyway, and have the same functions.

So mine would be:

Merlin
Arawn
The Green Knight (he might be just a bit too late though)
Bloduwedd
Hervor (The Swan maiden)
Bran
Owain

Bran and Arawn may be a bit close to gods though?

Started thinking about a Tudor(ish) league - hard to do without getting too much Shakespeare in there, and norsefire1 has already got the best one in Puck.

Hard to not just fill it full of non-human creatures

Dr Dee's Golem
Mephistopheles (as norsefire1 already had Faust who I was going to use)
The Faerie Queen
Rosenkrantz and Gildenstern (as in the Stoppard, not as in Shakespeare)
The Alchemist
Poor Tom (from King Lear)

Maybe Mephistopheles is too powerful though - if so I would have the Turkish Knight from the mummers play - or maybe Caliban (curse that shakespeare and his interesting characters!)

Middle ages next maybe to close the gap?

how could i forget rosenkrantz and gildenstern Idea considering its one of my fave plays as well Exclamation Question one i thought of after my post was the duchess of malfi, caliban would indeed be cool for a tudor one. ok here is my dark ages one.

1.grendel
2.lancelot
3.isolde
4.Merlin (a little man WHO travals time and space in a blue police box Smile )
5.sigrun (i know i had valkyre in my early medievil one but nevermind)
6.manawydan (may be a god might not be)

as catfang said its easy to have lots non human beings. i guess working on a high/late medievil one is a natural progession to as catfang says close the gap, i may work on teams from the 1900 - 1940s, just dont want it being defenders of the earth all over again Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Ha ha - Merlin as Doctor Who - especially for the TH White version who is aging backwards in time Laughing

Sigrun - excellent choice. That reminded me I was going to have Siegfried but I forgot about him while I was posting.

So, Mediaeval League (same problem with Chaucer as with Shakespeare !):

Taliesin
Wayland
Burd Ellen
Parzival
Prester John
Thomas the Rhymer
Dame Ragnell

Wanted Eigil Skallagrimmson, but as he is a historical character I thought maybe not as I think the leagues have all been only fictional. Same with Dante and Hassan -i-Sabbah.

These older stories have so much "cross over" and so many at least semi-historical people it that it looks like a "Global Frequency" style set up may be possible - never mind a League!

Might have a think about the romantics next - that should be a fun one

i got the idea of merlin being the doctor from a 7th dr story. i like the middle ages team but i think i would have put thomas hookton as well. yeah its so easy to put "real" people in. i think one could just get away with Dante if careful. yeah i to was thinking 1700s with the birth of the novel one could make some cool picks.

Meh, I'm happy with everyone in Fables.
The Big Bad Wolf, Beast, Boy Blue, King Ambrose. Awsome stuff.

Fables is pretty good. I have loads of back story stacked up to catch up on.

Have you read The Book of Lost Things? It's a novel with a similar idea. Very creepy, gave me 2 nightmares, which is good going. The Crooked Man - brrr!
