I have to agree to a certain degree that the Secret Invasion ending was a bit of a pop rather than a bang, i would have like to have seen more on the interaction between human and skrull in the embrace change scenario which to all intents was hinted at and then skipped over, the collaborator mentality could have been explored here with great effect.
Don't sic on Thor too much hell one of the reasons the skulls planned the attack when they did is because they though he was dead, otherwise they wouldn't have dared.
But it wasn't just Thor who helped win the War, it was the solid determination of mankind, (well a small percentage of mankind) that was instrumental in the skull downfall.
but is it not always the way, the penultimate chapter in a story is always better than the final issue? cast your mind back to the Thunderbolts story by Ellis. as an example.

Awesome post waffle, it makes the secret invasion board meeting sound just like the meeting to decide the name for Meatloaf's new album. They all look at him, and he goes "Well, what's better than Bat out of Hell?" They all look at each other. Bat out of Hell 2 it is! "Wait, what about the next one?" Papa Meatloaf just puts three fingers up. Bat out of Hell, Thor, same issue. He does have a cool hammer though.
One thing I have to clear up, I don't have my copy of Secret Invasion 8 with me right now, but can someone please tell me I wasn't seeing things, when the spaceship with all the Skrull's prisoners opened up, revealing a pooload of Shield agents, there WAS, I repeat, there WAS ELVIS in there with them, right!?! I know that's what I saw. He was on the right of the double page spread, near the back, I think. Please someone tell me I didn't imagine that. The King!
