From what I understand, someone at Gosh was involved with the publishing, so presumably that was how they got hold of advance copies, and arrange the signing.
It would seem that there has been a certain amount of palm greaseing.
here is the original solicitation for said book.
this and confirmation from Diamond Distributors that the book was to ship to stores on the 29th of April, (30th for the UK) and to quote: well it had better ship, because of the signing...
when we called Diamond on Thursday the 30th to ask where it was, we were told that it had been delayed buy two weeks, Mmm anyone any good at maths? _________________
This was the queue to get the signatures. It started on the left of the picture and went all the way around the block. I've added in an arrow to show where I got to at about 3.30 ish.
I think it's the best league book yet, and probably Kev O'Neill's best work of his career that I have seen.
Notes with no spoilers:
The colours are really rich and complement the art and story beautifully.
The "chorus" effect really does work - and you can hear the music coming off the pages.
I read it on the way back from the con and it took me the nearly 2 hour train journey to do so. I am still going to go back and read it again, as there is so much more to be explored in there as usual.
I literally had goosebumps on my arms at the end. _________________
I've read this twice and need to make the time give it a third read now the annotations are up. Certainly more instantly enjoyable than the Dossier, but I'll reserve judgment on whether it's better than Volume 2 (my favourite League offering thus far) until all three parts to Century are in hand.
I'm very much looking forward to #2, and the leap forward to the 1960's. I gather Alan Moore has completed writing this, so it's over to Kevin to get on with the art, no small task. Got to agree that the art on 1910 was superb, particularly the double splash page. _________________
ON A SLOW BOAT FROM CHINA…. That’s the official line from Diamond Distributors for the delay in supplying copies to UK customers, what delay you may well ask? that’s exactly what I have been asking.
Gosh Comics had them on the real release date of April the 29th, copies were available at the Bristol show, but I have been told that our copies are at sea on a ship from China,.
Is someone taking the F**king P**s?? or is this just another example of palm greasing and a complete disregard for the Fan boys and retailers who made the name Alan Moore a huge money spinner to begin with.
I would like to take this opportunity to say sorry to all the customers who in good faith advance ordered this book from us, and will offer a full refund to any who couldn’t wait for the slow boat from China to arrive and have purchased it elsewhere, just bring in the preorder slip and the refund will be made.
I can assure you of one thing, someone is taking the P**s and it isn’t Whatever Comics or any other poor unfortunate retail outlet that put its trust in fair trading practises !
