Every once in a while a film comes out that breaks new ground, and i believe that the Matrix was one of these films, and copycats will follow the lead.
and, Lord of the Flies, haven't seen it but thats a great title.

i'm surprised no-one's mentioned stuff like versus or ichi the killer...

evil dead or bubba hotep...

elephant (okay, it sucked, but it was beautiful) or... nah, that'll do for an off-the-top-of-the-head list.

stranger the fiction was pretty good too, as one of the few 'new' films i've seen in the last year...

Stranger than fiction was surprisingly good, really novel idea (geddit?). And quite funny to boot.

Tideland
Straw Dogs
A History of Violence
Portrait of Blood
Six String Samurai
The Devils
Sword of Doom
Wild At Heart
Pan's Labyrinth

and for nostalgia's sake, Lost Boys Cool

Worst films is a bit more tricky as CyNic is a big MST3K fan so we've seen some real stinkers.

Also I have a bit of a weakness for sci-fi and horror that's so bad it's good.

Having said that....

V for Vendetta - OMFG Crying or Very sad

Probably anything with Hugh Grant in it. Romantic comedies, EWWW.

devils backbone
(and pans labyrinth but thats not so underground any more)

its all about love
dark city (i know this last one isnt so lesser known but i'm constantly shocked at how few people know of it)

i also realise thats 6 but as people know pans lab i wasnt counting that as one of the 5

I just thought of a contender for worst film and one to walk out on,
Crouching Tiger Hidden (But not very well hidden) Strings, I mean Dragon. Smile
