xmas games

So, what did people get for xmas?

I'm now the proud owner of Mario and Sonic Olympics (jury is still out) and Mario Galaxy, which is just awesome! Soooo much better than Sunshine, and really close to Mario 64 in how it feels to play.

I didn't get any thus far which is a bit of a pain, considering buying CoD4 on the PC but might have to wait till I've been paid at the end of January.

I got Silent Hill origins for the PSP (haven't played it yet though)

Bought Time Crisis 4 for CyNic - thanks for all the info Xeall - the US version works perfectly.

Also got Drakes Fortune a few days before xmas but have not had time to play it yet.

Been playing Gears of War all holiday and a Sam and Max point and click (I do love point and clicks) that we got via Steam (a download service run by Valve - well worth a look). Excellent xmas game as we played it on the tv in the lounge by the christmas tree.
Xeall

Sam and Max rule! the new ones are possibly the greatest yet! Also rumors of the original and day of the tentacle making it to DS. Also a german team are making 'return of the tentacle' Oh the joy! (not sarcasm for once)

I got no christams games as i always have every game i want and people always get me the wrong one for christmas! However did get myself Ratchet and Clank on Ps3 in the sales today. Still need to finish RaC 2 and start Rac 3 before i play it really!

How they made a handheld game so scary and so good its worrying! Psp may not be the best handheld but wow does it have some impressive games. Just wait until you guys play Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core....my god the prettyness makes even the PS3 cry.

I've got pretty low standards for lightgun games, so I'm fairly easy to please with something like this. Predictably enough, I'm having a really good time.

The game is Time Crisis as its always been, with all the brilliance and limitations it's always had. The on-rails sections are the same as ever, and the graphical step-up is only noticeable for the first minute or so of play. After that, if you're into these games at all, you don't really care what it looks like.

The FPS mode was, in my opinion, a really nice addition, but I can imagine some people not getting on with it at all. The FPS levels I've played so far are very sparsely populated with bad guys (particularly compared to the regular on-rails levels, which are satisfyingly manic). Also, to be honest, the FPS sections really show up the limitations of the graphics engine the game's running. Looking like a PS2 game is one thing, but chugging when you look like a PS2 game (as it slightly does when you go through smoky areas) is very wrong on a PS3. Still, I'm having a lot of fun in these sections anyway.

As for the GunCon3 - well, I'm a lefty so I figured I was going to be SOL on this one. Surprisingly, not so. For the on-rails sections, it didn't matter at all, and I was able to play left-handed without any trouble. The FPS levels, on the other hand, necessitated swapping the functions of the two analogue sticks and playing "cross-handed", with my left hand holding the gun as normal and my right hand reaching under the muzzle to grasp the side grip. Awkward at first, but I got used to it quickly and now it's perfectly natural.

Controller/graphics issues notwithstanding, this is a game that was created almost specifically for me so, unsurprisingly, I really like it. Not all that pretty, but a Hell of a lot of fun.

Cheers,

Cy.

Nope, didn't get anyway.
My dad is very "anti video games", so the chances of me getting anything were very slim.

Reaper

Probably a Daily Mail reader and thus thinks they're evil inventions procreating violence and death.
Xeall

i got the ninjabread man (unfortunately, it's main selling point is it's name) and dirge of cerberus (haven't had a chance to play yet, unfortunately).

also, bought myself eye of judgement in the sales. haven't had a chance to play it yet, but i'm a little excited... and tempted to make myself a robe and wizard hat...

in other news, i've rediscovered my love of pokemon. xeall hooked me up with the new one before it came out over here, which i played for a week and then dumped until just before christmas, and am now not sleeping for.
