World War Hulk

With Marvel's 2006 summer event just finished (ahem, in February) the anticipation for the next one already starts. Here's some sneaky peeks.

Longshot

That art looks really cool, untill hulk jumps on him and i'm thinking impossible bending spiderman from all those macfarlane covers.

Does anyone know the premis of this yet
Web of Fear

Hulk returns to Earth. Hulk smash!

I think that sums up what WW Hulk is going to be. Smile

Maybe John Romita Jr spent a bit too long drawing Spider-Man.
Longshot

I know he is a big character and all, but is his return really worthy of an entire corossover, or are marvel just making sure there is a big one every year now to try and get people involved.
Reaper

What better way to boost comic sales than by having a yearly crossover.
waffle

so, has hulk always been able to speak perfectly well?

I was under the impression that he was a monosyllabic. er... hulk.
Web of Fear

In the TV series I don't think that Hulk ever did anything but growl.

To the best of my knowledge, in the comics the Hulk's intelligence has been variable over the years. He's usually been credited with at least enough intelligence to string sentences together, although he won't be winning any Booker prizes soon.

From a storytelling point of view, I don't think Hulk could have lasted if he was a totally mindless character who couldn't say anything other than "Grrrrrrrrrrrrr".
kingmouse

Yeah, I'm not all that confortable with him refering to himself in the first person.

Other than that it looks like a lot of fun. The only two pitfalls I can see for the story are a) forgetting that it's a tale that starts with the words "You shot me into space!" and trying to be too clever with it and b) mentioning the Illuminati too much because there are story elements there which will just cause a headache if they escape from their own mad comic.
Reaper

During the Onslaught Saga, Hulk had the mind of Banner so he could be strong but intelligent at the same time. Phoenix had to turn Banner off so Hulk could destroy Onslaught.
Robin The Boy Wonder

I wasn't going to bother with this. Now that I've read that preview though... I'm not so sure...

If I don't buy the series, I'll definitely buy it in TPB.
Reaper

I think if nothing else it'll be a bit of mindless (no pun) fun Very Happy
Robin The Boy Wonder

Unless Marvel pull a last minute switch and give the series to Bendis to write.

That whole fight with Black Bolt? It'll be a full ten pages of talking heads with Hulk commenting on life as he now sees it (and that will always start with a 'Look, just listen. Listen.' line - it always does with Bendis).

Now that would be the event of the summer!
The Rascal King

Robin The Boy Wonder

Is this official?
The Rascal King

Yes'm.
Robin The Boy Wonder

Why does Ms Marvel look so manly?
Longshot

If Hulk kicks the crap out of all those people i would buy it just to see that, quite a line up of far overrated [in my opinion] characters

i might just be having a slow moment though, who is the girl in the bottom left. all i can think of is starfire [i think thats it] and she is a teen titan lost in space [and in the wrong universe anyway]
The Rascal King

Tigera. Or Panthera.
The one whos a Cat Lady, and in the MU as opposed to being a Thundercat.
Robin The Boy Wonder

Tigra.

And I think the lass from Thundercats you're thinking of is Cheetara.

Who's Panthera? Confused
The Rascal King

A female panther lady?
Robin The Boy Wonder

Erm... is this a fantasy of yours that you're inadvertently sharing with us...?

Maybe I should just google the word...
The Rascal King

I was just unsure as to the characters name. I knew it was a big cat, and with "ra" on the end, I was just taking a stab at it.
Robin The Boy Wonder

Yeah, yeah... that's what they all say... Razz

I'm messin'.
Reaper

Panthera is the guy out of Thundercats Razz Tigra was also a guy out of Thundercats and the woman was Cheetahra
waffle

wasn't Panthera a hardcore Brazilian metal band?

oh... hang on..... Embarassed
kingmouse

Well if we're getting specific it was Panthro who was in Thundercats. Wink

I notice from the list that Hulk's ducking Cage again.

Na it just it didnt seem worth his while in boosting about it!!

After all, the Hulk didnt even notice he was standing on Cage until he had to scrape him off his foot!!! Very Happy

On a serious note. How is that Hulks hit list?

He's meant to be gunning for the Illuminatie - anyone who gets in his way, X-men etc is just collatoral damage!

So why the hell is he after Spider-man??

Also, issues 2 and 3 of the new Nova series should act as a nice little warning to earths heros as to what happens when a being of emense power returns to earth and isn't completley swayed by the SHRA.
Robin The Boy Wonder

Nova... a being of immense power...? Fah! Tony Stark wouldn't even grease his palm with that little insignificant dirtbag! Twisted Evil

Nova is like a fly when compared to some of the super powers we've enlisted: Hank Pym, Slapstick, Tigra... and the list goes on... Very Happy

Now bring on The Hulk!!!

As for the poster... both Wolverine and Spider-Man are on there. Kiddies will love it!!! Wink

Aaaaannd thats why people should read Anhilation.

It stops them saying stupid things.

To put Novas current powers in context.

After surrving an attack from Galactus THAT DESTROYED GALAXIES!!! he then went one on one with Anhilus, a being who has battled the FF to a standstill, AND FRICKIN' WON!!!!

Nuff said.
kingmouse

Yeah but Stark has an "I win" button on his armour which drowns his opponents in techno-babble in order to allow the plot to progress.
Robin The Boy Wonder

Ah, somebody who appreciates and understands Tony Stark!

Why do you think Cap surrendered? The devastation all around him? No, of course not. Don't be silly. Cap dpn't give a gnat's piss about the little people dying all around him - Stark just wouldn't shut up!!! He always gets the last word.

And CapO - I would have thought, of all people, that you would have recognised my post as tongue-in-cheek. I am very disappointed in you... now go sit on the naughty step in the shop until the girls allow you to make their tea for them.

What, WHAT,.....WHAT.
are you blind, Cap Surrendered so for Marvel sales figures, after all if Caps side had won , and Ironman were to have been assassinated, who would give a Toss. i can here it now, what a cop out its only Ironman, oh my another Hawkeye, But Captain America the symbol of truth and justice, well the world goes into morning. so don't YOU be silly, so there.

...erm...

You did realise that my post was tongue-in-cheek, didn't you?

As for the whole Cap surrendering issue... we should debate that in a whole 'nother thread for the sake of not derailing this one.

Incidentally, had Cap's side won...? The US Government would've had him assassinated rather than the Red Skull...
Guest

Which would have been a far better story....
Robin The Boy Wonder

Which then leads to... HULK SMASH US PRESIDENT!!!

did you realise that my post was also tongue-in-cheek, didn't you? hence the dont be silly on the end Smile

i never was good at humor. sigh.
Robin The Boy Wonder

We're both missing something on the humour here... although I notice from your sig you're back on the beer... so you must be feeling a little bit better at least then...! Very Happy
Batmanuel

mmmmmmm....Beer Smile

Just read the incredible Hulk 105, looking forward to when Hulk comes back now going to be some fantastic destruction. Hulk with a vendetta against Earth, excellent stuff, I wonder which of the Illuminati will take the smashing first
Robin The Boy Wonder

Judging from the preview, that'll be Black Bolt.

And if The Hulk takes down the strongest of The Illuminati first (and I consider Black Bolt to be the strongest), then who knows what'll happen to the others...

Tony Stark. Reed Richards. Dr Strange. All three must be crapping their pants in fear... although I daresay the good Doctor will know a holding spell or twelve for The Hulk... which may then be how the story ends...

Here's a possible then: The Mighty Avengers and those drafted into The Initiative fail to take down The Hulk... leaving the anti-registration New Avengers to take him down... makes me wonder how that would impact the Marvel Universe public if they were to see the heroes who didn't sign up be the ones to save them...
Batmanuel

I hope the Hulk Kicks Tony Stark and Reed Richards Arse, He can let Doc Strange off because he's helping The New (unregistered) Avengers Laughing
Web of Fear

New previews!

http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=112980
Robin The Boy Wonder

Wow.

Interesting to note Luke Cage and Spider-Man standing some of the registered heroes... maybe World War Hulk necessitates the two teams of Avengers teaming up...?

And John Romita JR.'s art looks stunning - career best, maybe.
Web of Fear

I'm not sure that She-Hulk will want to side with Tony once she's found out what the Illuminati did to her cousin. I always thought that Jen should be anti registration anyway .....

Maybe they're putting aside registration issues for the sake of the greater good (for the time being anyway).
Reaper

So how will that pan out after the event? Will there an agreement of some sort or will they go back to how it is now.
Batmanuel

Anyone read the Latest SHE HULK???,
Well let me tell you, it ROCKS.
Old Iron man may have neutralized the She Hulk, but he has way Pissed off Jenifer Walters...
who just happens to be a rather good lawyer,
and her comparison of Iron Man to Doctor doom was spot on.
this story holds revalance to both The Initiative and the upcoming World War Hulk.
The noose is tightening, around Tony Starks Neck Smile Smile Smile

and i cant wait to see The Iron Brand Fall Wink

Jennifer Walters may be a good lawyer but she would ultimately need to present cold, hard evidence to a court to stand any chance of convicting Tony Stark of any crime.

Tony's hardly Doom though. Ultimately, he's upholding a Law, created by his Government, that he initially opposed. He was placed in a position of authority so that he could steer the super human populace forward into tomorrow's world (being the self-proclaimed futurist that he is) and continue to uphold that Law also.

I haven't read the issue of She-Hulk in question but I remember you pointing out how he de-powered She-Hulk after delcaring that he'd done the same to other gamma-irradiated super-beings.

Well, if She-Hulk were to oppose me, and I had the option of de-powering her, and also perhaps thereby preventing the potential release of another gamma-irradiated rampaging monster (something the She-Hulk has been in the past), then I know I'd take the same bloody option! Wouldn't you?

Wouldn't you try to rid the world of monsters like The Abomination and The Hulk? The devastation that these characters have caused in the past would be enough to wipe out several cities, if not an entire country. Remember The Hulk's fight with The Thing in Fantastic Four (just before Civil War) where Las Vegas was left a devastated ruin behind them? Is that something you would continue to allow... or would you try to do something about it and prevent such a re-occurrence?

In the real world, surely a fight on that scale could be considered something on the scale of Hurricane Katrina.

And, let's say Jennifer Walters succeeds and Tony Stark falls from grace...

It changes nothing.

The Super Human Registration Act would still be in place and be Law. Someone else would simply step into Stark's shoes, although, perhaps then, there would be no one in place to protect the interests of super humans; perhaps then Tony Stark's prediction from the Casualties of War one-shot would indeed come true...

Sentinels. Anyone remember them?
Robin The Boy Wonder

The Tony Stark topic now has its very own thread!

Tony Stark is The Greatest!

Any posts on the topic of Tony Stark and his greatness, including your reply to my words of sage wisdom above, go here.

And now to return you to your thread.

HULK SMASH!

Finally caught up with my WWH reading, and I'm really enjoying it.

Not too sure about the X-Men issue, dunno if it's got legs, and the Ghost Rider issue was total crap, but the rest were good. I've not come into contact with Amadeus Cho (?) before, but it seems like he could be a pretty cool character.

I liked Front Line, and how Ben and Sally have started a Lone Gunmen-style publication. I only hope that Marvel don't screw it all up!
kingmouse

I just hope Frontline doesn't turn into "Ben and Sally know best" again. I love the concept of the book and the Civil War one was fun, but Jenkins just kept putting in guest appearences by Stark and Cap just so he could write them like morons and make his reporters look cool and wise. That and the bloody "Man, I can't believe we both know how Civil War will end...let's not talk about it though." thing.
Reaper

The first WWH Frontline did seem a little bit pointless, though I'm sure it'll amount to something in the end....... why do they feel a random murder is worth our money?
