Wolverine Movie ThreadApparently though they haven't chosen a director for this film they're still planning on releasing it in advance of Magneto.
Kevin Feige says even though there is very little progress so far he thinks it's very close to going in to pre-production..... Might be a little optimistic though

Details announced today say that Wolverine now has a director AND a filming start date.
Filming will start in November of this year with a release date of 2008 (July I bet). The Director is Gavin Hood, not someone I've heard of but apparently he directed Tsotsi which has a fairly good rating on IMDB.

Tsotsi is an awesome film, but mainly because of the story and acting - notsomuch the direction.

Some info on the movie has come to light, a bit of plot info in fact.
The film is likely to be a prequel (big surprise) which will chart Wolverines ties to Weapon X and Sabretooth. Also it will bring in his adamantium bonding and his feral origins (hopefully not too much of his origins).
Hugh Jackman had a bit to say on it. -- “What we need to do is establish who he is and find out how he became Wolverine. And by the end of the movie, I want it to be that you definitely knew who this guy was, like Mad Max and Dirty Harry. He’s a good guy, but he’s not a nice guy. He’s just the guy you want on your side.”

This is gonna be bad... it feels like they're making a Wolverine movie for the sake of making a Wolverine movie rather than making it because they have a good story.
Yes, I do like the original comic story... but... this is gonna be bad.
I have zero interest in this one... I'm more interested in Iron Man, The Dark Knight and The Incredible Hulk to be quite honest.
I also think there are more than enough hero movies on the slate for next year. Iron Man has a distinct advantage by going first (first weekend of May) and both Hulk and Batman are recognisable comic book icons that should hold an appeal with the typical, more commercial, movie-going audience. A Wolverine movie in the middle of next summer may just get lost... even though audiences know who the character is through X-Men.

Millions will go see it because millions loved x-men 3. 'shudder'. The women love hugh jackman, they will go see it. You know all of us will to even if it is just to cringe and complain like hell.
Oh and the bond between wolverine and sabertooth? Think they buggered up that possiblity in the first film. Seems like some one has read the comics now and gone 'wow we should stick to this....' TO LATE! They have gone with what they have, they can't back track just because they missed something they wished they hadn't. They should have stuck with david hayter as a writter, he seemed to have a plan for the x films.
My guess they go with neither remember due to healing factor, so whats the point? Have i come across as an angry fan boy cos it feels like it and i feel dirty.

I thought the writing for the first two X-Men movies was pretty good, the 3rd well my thoughts on the third are fairly well documented on here already.
The point I suppose is that they can make money out of it and it 'might' be worth watching.

Thats due to david hayter aka solid snake aka the guyver writting the first 2 and leaving on the third. David is writting watchmen, he's bad ass.

You probably feel dirty because, without saying as much, you're agreeing with me. Again. Twice now in one week...

the reason i wont see it?
Hugh Jackman isn't wolverine.
just see x2 or x3 and there isn't any bad ass moments. all i seem to get is a whiny 'lets do it together team' speeches. Plus lets no forget his indestructible pants!

I thought he was pretty good as Wolverine and the lack of 'bad ass' moments would be down to the writers not him And lets be honest he's much better than Dougray Scott would have been.

Well, the Wolverine movie now has an official title and a release date.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine will be released in cinema's first, and usually very profitable, week of summer, namely May 1st 2009.
Hugh Jackman will reprise his role of Wolverine with Gavin Hood directing. Shooting begins later this year in Australia before moving on to New Zealand and, after that, New Orleans. Rumour has it that the movie will also mark the cinematic debut of Gambit.

Hollywood: 'Yes these are his teenage year of reading comics, not much more damage to do here, we've already raped that to buggery.'

Apparently Silver Fox will be making an appearance in the prequel and be played by Maggie Q

An announcement at comingsoon.net about the Wolverine movie has given a synopsis for the film
| Quote: | X-Men Origins: Wolverine is set to star Jackman and will be directed by Gavin Hood (Tsotsi, Rendition). The producers are Lauren Shuler Donner and Ralph Winter (who produced all three previous "X-Men" films), along with Jackman and his Seed Prods. producing partner, John Palermo. The film will be executive produced by Marvel Films' Kevin Feige.
Leading up to the events of X-Men, X-Men Origins: Wolverine – written by David Benioff (The Kite Runner, Troy) – tells the story of Wolverine's epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe. |
Not amazingly detailed thankfully, gives enough to have an idea of what will happen but then, I think we already guessed this is what they would cover.

Well after eight years of avoiding it they've finally cast someone as Gambit to appear in Wolverine. Taylor Kitsch is his name and I couldn't tell you what I've seen him in though Empire list him starring in Friday Night Lights.
In other news Deadpool may make a brief appearance in Wolverine played by Ryan Reynolds, though thats unconfirmed.

The more I read about this film, the more I shudder...
Just when it seemed that all the pieces were falling into place for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the change in shooting schedules on director Gavin Hood’s Logan Year One tale has forced newbie Kodi Smit-McPhee to drop out of playing the youngling adamantium-clawed wild thing. Already committed to John Hillcoat’s adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy thriller The Road (alongside Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron), the oddly monikered newcomer has seen the coveted superhero mantle passed over to equally bizarrely named pretender, Troye Mellet.
Somehow, I don't think we'll all be rushing to the cinema to see this film. The pub, yes. The cinema, no.
