Wanted

Its official:
Wanted, the excellent mini series by Mark Miller is going to be a film, that means as of now and until the film is realised YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BUY IT,
Why? because its OUT OF Efing PRINT.
Bastards, i hate this, heaven forbid that the big stores should miss out on a sale, so lets put it OutOfPrint now and when the film comes out we will rake it in, the industry really needs to not bite the hand that feeds them.
I hope that someone form Wizards of the Coasts is reading this, remember Pokemon? and how many workers they laid off after the boom, and how magic sales have never really been the same since due to disgruntled retailers, and how you had to sell out to Hasbro in order to survive?
I have spent years building this book, from comic to graphic novel, selling copies left right and center, why? because its GOOD, and now i cant order it, i cant supply it, i cant even recommend it, because i don't have it, it probably wont be available again until January of next year.
so the qustion is how long before we see the watchmen in Tescos Question
what a crock of shit Evil or Very Mad
Xeall

I would be pissed but i got a copy! so i can dance infront of people laughing at them!

Can't wait for the film, they had best cast it right,

what does people think of de niro as the boys father (can't remember what they called him as a superhero)
waffle

It's such a bad-ass comic.

The main character was drawn to look like Eminem though....
waffle

Angelina Jolie as Fox, James McAvoy as Wesley, Morgan Freeman as Sloan. Directed by Timur Bekmambetov, who did the Russian vampire movie Night Watch. Could be interesting....
Xeall

The director ruined some of the greatest moments in night watch, read the trilogy, i honestly class it as one of the best things i've ever read.
Reaper

The first trailer for this film is available...... here

I personally want to travel to hollywood and rip the testicles of the higher up as and feed it to them. I just saw the trailer through the window in curry's. I was watching thinking what the hell is this generic peice of crap and it slowly dawned on me what i was seeing. I am weeping openly.

Those super heroes that made the comic so awesome seem to have been removed. Its just a shoot'em up film as far as i could tell with angelena jollie having more of a part than she should. oh and the guy playing the lead looks really young and not the mid 20's lifeless man that made it so interesting. Prepare to rant people, hollywood have F***ed us again
norsefire1

ok i have just come back from seeing this...and to be quite frank i havent got F***ing clue what the hell to make of it. i think this is yet again hollywood not getting the point...again, i only think that Jolie bothered to read the GN out of all the cast, i think the Dir was the wrong choice as well. it kind of felt a lot like the kind of movie  john woo would of been told to make it for some big u.s studio 10 years ago.yes the action was very good but this alone a film does not make.although i also get the feeling the source material was not really taken seriously, it kind of felt that it was kind of being played for one big joke, i am sure when it comes out on dvd adolescents and those with the emotional maturity of one will embrace it whole.

We just got back from seeing it.

I did enjoy it a lot - in the same vein as Shoot Em Up - but I think you have to forget this is in any way connected with the comic of the same name. Actually I can't really remember the comic all that well, but it is not just a matter of "some things being slightly changed", you are right, it is a whole new story where the lead characters have the same names.

There are some great SFX with bullets and trains, some unanswered questions and some satisfying violence. Go in expecting a mindless, completely unrealisitc summer film and you will not be disappointed.

Yesterday I didn't think I could be bothered to go but I am glad I did.

For me it is the film the Matrix should have been - an unknown man discovers incredible fighting powers and uses them in all out action scenes just for the pure joy of them with no "philiosophy for dummies" rubbish that someone had copied down out of wikipedia.

i was told today that the movie rights where sold before the first issue of the comic was put into print. ive spent the last few days thinking about this movie and i guess the best thing i can come up with is that this movie is kind of like LXG all over again. and like LXG it kind of leaves the point out. the wanted comic is a cutting analysis of the supervillian and begs questions about the way the way the west views violence in terms of entertainment.

still makes quite a cool big dumb action movie, lots of fun.

Wow - kind of shows the film makers didn't care at all about the story then. Strange property to do that with though - it is not like it is a hugely known story that non comics people would have come to see because of the name.

Both very true points. If you love the comic you will probably be annoyed and disappointed.

LXG is a good comparison of its relation to the comic (although not the quality of the film I would say)

It really does have no sub text for deeper discussion and, in fact, goes right against the idea of violence as entertainment being a problem - in fact it postively glories in it. Personally I have no problem with it doing that on its own terms (I like a bit of cathartic violence in my media), but, yes, why not just make your own action film and not spend the money on the license?
norsefire1

to be quite cynical about it i think a studio buying up a license is all about cash makeing. i think if a movie can be tied into a comic, game, rpg, book then i think that the studio wanting to get bums on seats from the fans who like the media the movie is based on. and i think that its getting to levels of explotation of a license when a studio buys rights to something that has yet to be created in full.
Batmanuel

I think that this is a strange case of stripping it to the bone, the fact that there was still story enough to make a movie is either
1. a credit to Mark Miller
2. a discredit to the movie audience
But like Constantine, its proof beyond belief that the source material can be largely ignored.
Get used to it, its going to happen again, and again, and again, ask the Novel Writer.
the one thing we can hope for, and the ONLY thing we can hope for, is that the movie is good.
i have not seen Wanted yet, but will, and i am in hope that enough of the substance remains, and that it will be  a high octane roller coaster ride. like i have said i haven't seen it yet. so i may be talking shit.
so in my mind what makes this more tolerable that Constanteen?
well see if you can work that one out yourselves Smile
If I'm wrong on this i wholly humble myself
but if I'm right i will also gloat.
In the meantime, i will let you know when ive seen it.
Longshot

I havent read the source material [again] although I am tempted from what you guys are saying, could probably pick it up quite cheap.

I really enjoyed the film, watched it last night. It was fun, not that engrossing but really good action fun with a bit of story splashed in. There were some good moments when he hit back which were really exciting, as most of the film was come to think of it.

My problem is, don't hire a scottish actor to play an American. I don't know where the character was from in the book but James MacAvoy has a very distinct accent, which he dropped for an american on in this film, which left me unnerved most of the way through. But they did keep that kid from Hustle with his propper accent.

As for Fox, her role wasn't all that big in the end, she was there but didn't really do much. that includes looking her usually stunning self, normally she steals the screen in this film there was 1 maybe 2 scenes where this happened.

What won me over in this film was the sheer ammount of out and out action. Good gun fights, good car chases, good fist fights, good rat fights, generally good effort.
Batmanuel

It fills me with joy and hope that you enjoyed this film, hell i enjoyed Tomb raider and Resident Evil for some of the very same reasons.
But...

and an American actor as a Brit, yes?
mind you if its a good actor it shouldn't matter what nation they are from.
although it would ne difficult passing off Forest Whitaker as the leader of the Klueless Kluking Klan Laughing
Reaper

But worth a try!
