Uncharted: Drake's fortune

I haven't pushed this on you guys enough....honestly!

Ok Plot, you are Nate Drake the decendent of Francis Drake. Now Francis was meant to have died childless, but it turns out mr Drake senior faked his own death to run of to find a treasure of unimaginable value. You as Nate are on the trail Francis left behind for those clever enough to find it. Imagine this is indiana jones done now and you have the right idea.

Nate Drake is voiced by, wait for it, Nathan Fillion of Firefly fame. Now you can imagine a cocky 80's hero being done by this man and he does it to perfection. Other voice talent include's Simon Templeman, who to the big geeks out there did the voice of Kain in the Legacy of Kain series. Other supporting talent is a list of people that have done more games than i own (not really and thats worrying).

Right the gameplay, it feels tight, it plays like a dream, apart from one or two minor glitches actually at the beginning of the game that never reoccur which is weird. One of these includes a ladder you don't auto grab and you fall to your death several times before realising it wasn't you doing something wrong. However this does display the fantastic auto checkpoint system which just puts you back above the ladder.

Shooting is gears of war, changing weapons is gears of war, cover is killswitch (you stole it gears). This works like a charm, clicking the left stick switches sholder, which is suprisingly helpful when shotting round corners. Then you have close combat, which ranges from pummling the guy till he falls down to kicking the guy in the nuts followed by a swift uppercut. All feels incredibly fun and heroic.

Throughout the game you will gain a partner and they will help out during gun fights. Never able to die you would think them useless like all AI controlled partners (hello gears), but no your partner is effective, gets out of your way when you need that peice of cover and even takes out enemies. Quite funnny hearing them panic when a grenade lands next to them only to realise that Nate is also shouting and your the one next to it!

There are small vehicle sections included in this bundle of joy all of which feel epic and 80's action film-ish. The main reason it all feels so great is that voice talent i mentioned earlier, the characters are always talking. It really brings you into the adventure.

It may be sighted as repetative and the jumping puzzles are easy as hell but the whole package is just to much fun to complain. I know i put mario sunshine for this but something just appeals to me in this, mario sunshine really to me didn't feel new, this does even though its a cross breed of several games and films. A needed gem in the line up for the Ps3 Drakes fortune performs on all levels. Oh its a little short but its good for the type of game it is, any longer and i think it would be streching it. But this does knock a point off an otherwise joy of a game.

9/10

If I had a PS3 I'd be interested in it.
