Ultimate Universe

Just wanting some advice.

I've never read any issues from the ultimate universe and wanted some opinions from others about it.

Currently a fan of the all the other X-men titles as well as several Spider-man but am a bit wary of the re-invention.

Also heard great things about the Ultimates series, any thoughts and suggestions will be gratefully appreciated.

Cheers[/i]

Ultimate Spider-Man has been from the start pretty damned good and I would heartily recommend it. First two collections are a must!

Ultimate X-Men has been pretty good too though not quite as consistent but the first collections are definitely worth reading to see if you like it.  And the Apocalypse series they ran recently.

The Ultimates vol 1 and 2 were fantastic and should be read by all comic fans, vol 3 however should be set fire to and pushed down a well because it is such a step back it's unbelievable.

Ultimates and ultimates 2 are possibly some of the best things marvel have ever released. I remember saying to Batmanuel that i would never ever like an avengers comic. Admittedly he then showed me new avengers and i loved it but what i meant was the orginal team. There was no way in hell i would ever find Iron man and captian america cool.

This comic changed all that and made it on my top ten. That is possibly why i dislike ultimates 3 so much, it ruined my love of something i thought i hated (if that makes any sense).

I enjoyed ultimate X-men to a point and then it trailed off covering the same old stuff you have read before, no shocks, no thrills and no fun.

Ultimate fantastic 4 is worth a read simply worth reading for the origins of marvel zombies. Apart from that, average at best.

Now ultimate spiderman. 'THE' Utimate comic to read, yes Ultimates is amazing but nothing else has consitantly come out on a montly bases and been so good. Only one section of story i thought was below standard and that was only due to tie-in. Ultimate spiderman has:-

1. Re-invented the character and supporting roles.
2. Covered new ground.
3. Re-covered old ground with the most amazing re telling, clone saga for example
4. Told the story consitantly how it should be.

Now i have to explain 4. Lets take Punisher MAX, a take about the old frank castle, something very much brought foward in the first main story. After that franks age was pretty much forgotten. Ultimate X-men telling a story with different attitudes on the characters we all know and love, eventually reverting back to the same characters from 616.

Ultimate spiderman has kept the feel of its original intent in tact through-out its course, actually building its story upon this along the way.

thats the longest answer i have ever given to a short question, hope it helps

Short but sweet, I like it
The Rascal King

All worth reading, if only for Ultimatum that is coming up. Even Ultimates 3 *shudder* is worth it for the last issue, to see the set up.
And I'm currently loving how they're tying everything in. Very concise writing.
That and the multiple in jokes to Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk.
