The Mummy 3 Tomb of the Dragon Emporer (Review)Here you are then:
The film starts off with its usual prologue showing us what happened several hundred years ago. In this case a Chinese Warlord wanting to rule it all. He pretty much succeded too. One thing though like any man he was mortal. Bet you can tguess what our nasty friend wanted? Ahhh the old cliche immortality. Hearing tell of a witch who knew the secret of eternal life he sent his most trusted General Ming, the General finds said witch and the pair go back to the palace once there the witch tells the Warlord that although she dosent know the secret herself she knows where it can be found.
The Warlord then sends both her and Ming to retrive it taking Ming aside and warning him that no one may have her except himself. The pair make for a monstery and there find the book that will give immortality and while at the monestry the pair fall in love.
Bet you cant guess what happens next? Upon the witch's arrival back at the Palace the Warlord tells her to to cast the spell and she does so. Taking her out onto a balcony he tells her to look down. He proceeds to kill Ming in front of her and trys to kill her also. However the spell she cast was not one of immortality but a curse, the emporer becomes a terra cotta statue along with his entire army. ANNNNND If awakened will reek a horrible revenge on the Earth blah blah blah. Again bet you cant guess what happens next. Although to be fair it's not Rick and Evi who dig him up this time.
As usual the specials effects and CGI are top notch and the actors give a good perfomance and although Maria Bello will never quite fill the gap that Rachel Weiz left she gives a good perfomance as Evi. The fight scenes are again awsome although I think they may have gone through several cameramen as it looks like the filmer had been hit with a taser a lot of the time.
I feel the storyline was a little thin on the ground and the movie seemed to revolve more around the O Connell family and their problems more than it should of done. However this may just be me. And thanks historical accuracy, corpses providing the foundations of the Great Wall of China? Yeeeeeees. At one point during the film I had to question what was going through the Directors mind when he decided on this particular bit of plot but I wont spoil it here. Not sure it should be there though.
Anyways if your hoping this is going to be better than the two previous films dont because its not. As a mummy fan I enjoyed it but like I said certain points made me question wether or not the director was smoking something he shouldent have been.
6/10

i saw this last week and got a lot of fun out of it, thought that it had a nice narrative structure to it and lots of good action, good all round pulp adventure.

I loved the first The Mummy film with Brendan Fraser and even quite enjoyed its sequel.
Although I'm none too sure about this one. I've read several reviews now and they all seem to say the same. I can't see why the studio felt a need for a third Mummy film - other than to make money, of course!
Especially one without Rachel Weisz!
