Spider-Man 4 & 5You read the title correctly: Spider-Man 4 AND 5.
Spider-Man 4 & 5
So... let the speculation commence!

Quite surprised by this news. Much more is expected of Superhero films now in the wake of Iron Man and DK so I wonder how it will fare.
We watched Spiderman 2 again last night (my favourite of them) as it has just been rifftraxed.
I had forgotten just how many crying scenes there are - mostly from the hero!

If it happens, let's hope it's more Spidey 2 than Spidey 3 ....

Can't say I care too much whatever way it goes. At least with filming them back to back they won't loose any cast members, which has been a threat in the past and alway will be when your planning on making 5 films.
I think there is great missdirection with the villain, as it could be any one of dozens of characters. I don't think theyll rise to the iron man Dark Knight bait as theyre already 3 films in and that would be bucking a trend.

And with a bit luck, Kirsten Dunst won't come back to play a screaming piece of meat!

Well in one of the articles on it they did suggest that Bryce Dallas Howard would come back as Gwen Stacy...... Yes because her character in no.3 really needs to return and be a wasted space AGAIN!
Though I'm sure now that Marvel have written MJ out of the time line (wankers) that they'll find a way to influence that in the film.

If Bryce Dallas Howard does return, I daresay her role will be far more increased.
Let's bear in mind that Spider-Man 3 was a good example of that old saying 'too many cooks...'. SM 3's biggest problem is that there were far too many characters and not enough time for each one to gel within. Personally, while I felt the black costume was a good move, they didn't then need to go ahead and introduce Venom. I always felt they could have seeded that particular plot thread for a Spider-Man 4 and debut Eddie Brock as Venom then (or, as I hoped last year, in the dying minutes of Spider-Man 3).
Hopefully, Sam Raimi has learned his lesson there.
As for your fears concerning Mary Jane, I think Raimi is far more concerned with rooting his film in the real world than placing a devil-like being into the framework. I suspect it far more likely that Mary Jane will ultimately marry Peter (you never know; MJ may even have a new head!).
