Trinity #1
From: DC Comics
Writer: Kurt Busiek
Art: Mark Bagley with Art Thibert
Interesting title this, it follows the Superman / Batman comic in so far as it relies totally upon the famous logos to spell out the name of the comic, and thus it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt how powerful a logo can be.
So lets take a look then, it is by Kurt (astro city) Busiek and Mark (spiderman) Bagley after all, no light weights in the industry by any stretch of the imagination.
Well its alright, pretty standard Superhero fare here, not great and not crap, put it this way with KB at the helm it can only get better...cant it?
I bloody well hope so, because this pales into insignificance compared to Astro City, and although the art is above adequate, it really is the best thing on offer here, which saddens me as i was hoping for more, much more.
Do us all a favor Kurt, stop being a DC prostitute, and get back to doing comics for the love of it, IE Astro City.
a very cringe-worthy 5/10
Marvel 1985 #1
Millar brings the villains to our world.
Written by: Mark Millar
Art by: Tommy Lee Edwards
I dont know what the F**K is going on here, but i know i like it
Apparently this is going to tie in with the Fantastic Four And Wolverine.
Oh and i really like T. Edwards art
I liked it in Bullet Points and i like it here.
So far so good 9/10
Kick Ass # 3
By (As if you need to be told)
Kick Ass become the celebrity of the Internet, gets a girl friend (well sort of) and gets what seems to be a nine year old stalker who knows how to say CUNT.
Yes very clever.
violence is used in a simplistic and pornographic fashion, which is neither clever or entertaining,.
and now the anti has been set to a much higher level, why, because there is a body-count.
Young Children with Knifes.... Hmmm, news at 10 anyone.
This comic like all others had 3 issues in which to prove itself, and the first 2 were good, not brilliant but good, issue 3 however takes a plunge into dark deep waters, it is neither brilliant or diabolical, entertaining or crap.
But i do feel that the slogan "the worlds greatest superhero comics" has been somehow lost here.
Will i continue to read it? sure as hell i will
Will i enjoy it? I dont know, if it continues down with its sick interest in garish voyeurism, then no.
but at this stage i cant see it going anywhere else.
So this issue plummets to a really embarrassing 2/10, and it hurt me to say so, but i am not one to go with the flow just because, and this is one i am going to say no to.
Just thought i would add a post script to this, Mark Miller is at the top of the tree at the moment and to butt against that would to all intents seem like suicide.
However just because its Miller, it doesnt mean its awesome, i would like to site The Mark Miller Unfunnies as a case in point.
Hey but when have i ever given a shit about the majority
Web of Fear
I was looking forward to Kick-Ass #3 with anticipation and trepidation, as I wasn't sure if it was just going to be more of Dave bumbling about meaninglessly.
However, the scene with the guys in suits saying "not again" (hinting at an as yet undeveloped story thread) and the foul mouthed pint sized terror, does mean I'm still in for a few more issues.
Longshot
I still have no idea what 1985 is about, and so won't be buying it, but will be buying Trinity in a hope its more like 52 than liek countdown.
Reaper
Will have to try and get hold of something these today while I'm work. No internet for a bit as I've just moved into a new house and the phone is taking ages to be reconnected.
Longshot
I enjoyted Trinity. It felt a bit uncomplete, but I'm guessing its going to be building to something very cool.
SPOILER
In the second story that was Riddler right, kinda hard to tell with the art work and no costume, although Riddler doesent really wear a costume any more, and I do love the artwork.
Then at the the end it was obviously the rogue Monitor who I know nothing about other than there is one from Countdown #1.
