Sin City: Recut and Extended

I was in the record shop yesterday and saw this on the shelf and picked it it. It's a double disc with the theatrical cut on one disc and the new cut on the other. I haven't watched the movie yet but it seems that the separate stories have been edited together so you can watch them in isolation.

The extras include the green screen version of the movie with no effects.

There's also a cooking lesson with Robert Rodriguez!

You know what, although Sin City is one of my favorite films, i haven't brought it yet, why? because i am sick of paying fifteen quid for something, and the seeing it for a tenner, also there's always and extended special edition made of the really good films, so i am glad you posted this, as i may now purchase said item Very Happy

It seems to be an HMV exclusive, and it only set me back a tenner too.

i'll wait for the inevitable blue ray or hd-dvd release with add WOW

is this the big long, "how it should be cut" dvd that they got in the US? or just a 10min extra extended cut?

I've watched the "Customer Is Always Right" and "The Hard Goodbye" segments. There was only one additional scene that I could identify of Marv going to his mother's to get his gun.

This is what IMDB says about the recut version: http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0401792/alternateversions

Just read on the Empire forums that due to a cock up, disc 1 of the set (which should have the original theatrical cut and quite a few extras) is simply of the current vanilla version of the DVD already available to buy.

Someone who ordered it on-line posted this email from HMV:

Quote:
Dear HMV Customer,

I am emailing you in regard to your order for:

Sin City: Recut & Extended: 2dvd: Hmv Exclusive: Special Packaging
Unfortunately the item has been recalled to the supplier as the DVD does not contain the correct extras that it should.
We do not have a date on when the item will be coming back into stock but we will be in contact with you as soon as we have more news. You have not been charged for the DVD, as we only ever charge when an item is despatched from our warehouse.
The standard version of the DVD is available, although you may well already own it:

Watched the "Big Fat Kill" section, and again only one scene that I couldn't recall from the theatrical version. Methinks that the use of the word "extended" is a bit of a swizz ....

Final update, having watched the Yellow Bastard segment. This one contains the most extra material at a whopping three extra scenes!

The description of this as the extended version is a rather literal use of the word, but it's hardly extended to the same extent as Aliens, but on the other hand it was only a tenner and nicely packaged in a tin case.

Now if I can just get hold of the disc 1 that it was supposed to have .....

Just as a final note, I took it back and got a refund. HMV don't know when it'll be back in stock, but given the limited amount of extra footage, it didn't seem worth holding onto.
