Quantum of Solace

Anyone see this/going to see it?

Saw it last night.  Top notch action, but I think that Bond took out the scriptwriters first.

No's I havent seen this yet but I really want to.
Batmanuel

Well that's one way of putting it, took the scrip writers out first Laughing
I like it.
Robin The Boy Wonder

I watched Quantum of Solace last Friday.

I wasn't expecting the greatest Bond film of all time; after all, I'd read the reviews and the general feeling that this was an OK Bond film but a disappointing one to follow the superior Casino Royale.

I didn't realise I'd still be struggling to put the story in place 30 minutes into the film! I didn't realise that his metamorphosis into 'Bond... James Bond', a move so elegantly offered at the end of Casino Royale, would be so quickly undone with nary a thought. I also didn't realise that the producers behind Bond would feel so threatened by the Bourne films that they would produce an unintelligible, action-oriented, effects-driven, story. Or, should that be, lack of a story. Oh, and the bad guy must be a bad guy because he's French. Them French dudes sure are evil.

It's a shame. I really wanted to love it after falling for Casino Royale; however, while I warmed to the film by its mercifully-quick end, I still felt short-changed by a production team that had it so right only two short years ago.

I understand that Bond needs to evolve with the 21st century and that the Bourne films did change what was acceptable for a spy movie (if we can loosely call Bourne that); however, this wasn't it.

I understand Bond would be motivated by revenge. I understand Bond wouldn't perhaps pursue his leading lady (although he couldn't wait to rip the knickers off Gemma Arterton). I understand we may be witnessing his evolution into the Bond he will eventually become (complete with Roger Moore wise-cracks). And I understand that evoution would continue with Quantum of Solace; however, this was a backward step for the franchise. Let's hope they make that forward step once more and place Daniel Craig's Bond firmly back on the track he so expertly stepped upon two years ago.

This may not be a review but I can only give Quantum of Solace a paltry **.
