I was really hoping that they wouldnt make a sequal, it just didnt work that well and i think a sequal would make it worse.
But without Jane maby theyll just give up.

See I enjoyed the Punisher film.
Didn't like the change to the skull, as Punisher skull t-shirts are really cool anyway.
The changes to the character were superfical like his origon being tweaked.
I thought the torture with ice lolly was spot on. Didn't see him as a criminal worthy of death and actual torture - but needed the info he had. And to be honest psycolligical torture of that type is really, really brutal in its own right.
The fact that they managed to work the Garth Ennis characters of Joan, Mr bumpo and Spacker Dave in to the film woth out going completley stupid was very clever.
It's a shame that Jane has gone. Mind you - too much more "tweaking" of the character and it would have lost its Punisherness. So if the script is that bad, best if it doesn't get made.
If only Warner Brothers had worked that out with Catwomen and Constanteeeeen!

I enjoyed the remake of the Punisher film, yes it was basically an 80s action rerun but it was damn fun and things got shot and blown up (I'm easily pleased by that). From something else I wrote I think TJ just got bored of waiting for the sequel to get the go ahead, shame as he ws fairly good.

How heres an interesting choice for the Punisher in the next film.... Ray Stevenson. Any of you who have watched Rome will remember him as Titus Pullo the large and somewhat short tempered centurion.
He's not someone I would have instantly associated with the role but he's a bit guy so he's got the physical status for it and he's a pretty good actor too. Wonder if he'll grow some hair for the role?

Now see i have to aggree with Cap O on this one, there was nothing wrong with the Punisher Movie, it worked as a movie and as a comic book movie on every level, i really cannot see how you could not have enjoyed it, are you sure you were watching the modern movie and not the dolf effort?

I trusted you both. The sheer horror of finding out you liked this film is...
it was p*** poor.

Do you read the punisher? there is no such thing in his eyes. Frank see's you as criminal or not and we all know what he does to criminals.
The only bit i really felt they had captured the punisher was in the scene leading up to and including where he leaves the last son with a bomb in his hand.

Its been reported that the new Punisher movie will be going under this title;
The Punisher - Welcome Back Frank
And that it will start shooting in September of this year. Now I wonder how closely to that story arc it is going to be? Obviously the three apartment characters are out as they were in LA or wherever the first one was set.

How about The Rock as Castle? Not sure it's really his kind of movie though to be honest.
To be fair on them Punisher is a very hard character to do. You have to make him cool and funny and you have to make him a bad guy who fights worse bad guys, but he has to be tradgic too. The point of Punisher is that his way is the wrong one and he knows that, but he keeps doing it because he doesn't have any other way to be. It's hard to have that in a movie because the idea of a hero who doesn't redeem himself at the end is practically anathama to the genre.

Frank never has seemed funny to me.

Uh i don't think frank see's it as wrong. He does think this is the only way to solve crime and to save innocents. He's even said at points how much he enjoys it. Frank is just a phyco who either is morally f*$%@d or is the most sane man on the planet.

Kinda the point of the punisher i think. Therefore awesome film concept.
Base this off welcome back frank and you have the most awesome film. then give the game licence to the guys that did the last one. That was sweet.

The game was pretty good, though I really wished they had allowed you to see the damage you did to people in the 'special' killings. Like the drill to the guys head!

It depends who's writing him. I prefer the more satirical use of the character like in Business as Usual or the first few issues of war journal. He's pretty much an American version of Judge Dread, so the same storytelling opertunities present themself (ie using a lead character who's a horrible person to explore the more horrible aspects of society). He's a killer but in a lot of ways he's still a super-hero so you have to keep your tongue in your cheek slightly when writing him. If you wanna see a great take on the way Frank sees himself then read Devil in Cell Block D. Some of the stuff he says to Matt Murdock is kinda chilling but tragic at the same time.

Unfortunatly the censors made them change the killings to black and white and remove some, also some quick kills were removed. Also negative points were introduced for killing someone like that, as they saw it as torturing someone to death, you can stop the drill and shoot them in the head though thats fine! However if you own the pc version there is a patch to unlock them and the colour as THQ didn't remove them from the coding only locked them out! Also unlocks limbs and heads being blown off!

New title for the Movie
The Punisher: War Zone
Quite cool to keep it in line with the 90s series, wonder how much of a comparison there will be.

Some punisher updates for you
Lexi Alexander (the hottest director in Hollywood) has signed Dominic West of The Wire fame to play Jigsaw. Also Wayne Knight (Dennis Nedry in Jurassic Park) has signed on to play Microchip, this further confirms the directors comments that the film will remain more faithful to the comics than the 2004 film.

i for one iam gutted about jane pulling out, if it is true, the movie was good and took a lot of its magic from the comics. i take it this new movie will be more of a revamp then a true follow up?

A mixture of the two I would say, its a sequel as it follows on from the 2004 film but it does it, in its own way.

If that is so it will hugely benifit from not having to be a Origin film. this is a big problem that alot of films suffer from in my opinion.

Yet more casting news, Hurrah!
Anyone remember Maginty from the Punisher Max series? He was it around three years ago, a rather nasty rasta type character. T.J. Storm who was in the Conan series some years ago has been cast as Maginty.
Plenty of bad guys to be shot by the looks of it

Just found the Official Lionsgate Synopsis for the film online.....
"Waging his one-man war on the world of organized crime, ruthless vigilante-hero Frank Castle sets his sights on overeager mob boss Billy Russoti. After Russoti is left horribly disfigured by Castle, he sets out for vengeance under his new alias: Jigsaw. With the "Punisher Task Force" hot on his trail and the FBI unable to take Jigsaw in, Frank must stand up to the formidable army that Jigsaw has recruited before more of his evil deeds go unpunished."

I dunno, it seems sound enough, if its done properly. The main problem will always be that you cant get to garth ennis write it. But this could be a good laugh if nothing else.

If they stop trying to make this a blockbuster for 15 and over audience and kick it up to 18 saw style it could work. You can't hollywood gloss the punisher and his story. Its nasty and gritty and damn right violent. I'll go and see it anyway so hollywood wins either way
