Phoo ActionPhoo Action
(BBC 3)
I had no idea what to expect when I sat down to watch this the other night, but with Kung Fu, a classic Lancia Stratos, a pretty girl in boxer shorts, and all set in a near future 2012, who could resist, what I got was f**king insane and a highly enjoyable romp.
What I didn’t realise while I was watching it was that some of the names behind the scenes were the likes of Jamie Hewlett (Tank Girl) and Peter Martin and Jessica Hines (co-creators of Spaced with Simon Pegg) which I am really glad off, as I viewed the show without any expectations as to the content, with a completely open mind, and without being influenced by the names.
So what do you get for the admission fee? Well set in the year 2012 the world has changed a bit and for the worse, London is in the midst of a crime wave with mutant criminals on a rampage, what we need is a shiny new hero to save the day, what we get is a Buddhist Kung Fu Cop called Eddie Phoo and the daughter hard man police chief Whitey Action, Hence the name “Phoo Action”
Together they form a most unlikely duo to combat the evil villains which in case you didn’t realise consist of a guy with a baseball for a head who reminds me of Zippy, and a huge Seven foot purple (I thought he was blue but have since been corrected) Honey Monster… no really, I haven’t been on the pink pills, honest.
What else can I tell you about this show, oh that’s right the heroine pulls stuff out of her shorts like useful weapons, (the pants are apparently magic Buddhist boxers) and the episode has the main villain conspiring to become the King of England with full on appearances by the royal Harry and William played by a couple of look-alikes which in it self was bloody hilarious.
To sum up the whole show was like a high octane roller coaster ride of near lunacy levels, I loved it.
