Penance Relentless

Probably the biggest surprise of the year so far for me in that this mini was actually really good. Jenkins obviously had a clear idea of where Robbie Baldwin was supposed to be going back when he created Penance in Frontline and it's nice to see the character finally making some kind of journy rather than just hanging about in Thunderbolts. Don't get me wrong, Ellis writes Penance well, but to me it's always felt like the character had been crowbared into the team at Marvel's request, rather than being part of Ellis' original plan. With Relentless we've finally seen some real progression for the character and some resolution to his unfinished Civil War story.

Plus Nitro has gotta be the luckiest bastard on the planet after everything that's happened to him in the last year.

i have to agree i thought this was fantastic. Issue 2 and 3 looked like they might be going a bit of track but the final 2 issues were fantastic. The last issue is well worth a read even if you haven't read the rest.

Back during Civil War, I thought that Penance had the potential to be a really cool character. And I was right. What a surprise  Wink
