I was so Hoping for the girl from Blink Carey Mulligan (Sally) Evil or Very Mad (very nice girl), But what do i read this morning it going to be......
CATHERINE TATE Shocked God help us all For me she ruined the christmas special with her terible acting if thats want you call it anyway let alone a whole season with her Exclamation Exclamation Crying or Very sad .

I think the Christmas epesodie may have been down as much to the director as to Tate herself, as I seem to recall her doing spme pretty good actting somewhere.

But I agree with bringing back Sally - prefreably in some Jabba the Hutt and Slave girl type sceene....

... and if they need a Jabba, well being a fat boy has its benifits!!

"I cant believe it Sally - they have chained you to me with real locks and some carless bugger has lost the keys......" Twisted Evil

for fcks sake. BBC are just ratings whores.

stupid morons who think she's funny will watch the programme and increase the viewing figures. that's their entire thought process behind the decision.

*bangs head against a brick wall complaining 'they're just not good enough'*

Oh wait thats something else Shocked

And here's the bad news in all its glory:

Bah! Catherine Tate's The New Assistant!

This will appeal to the kiddies who probably loved Catherine Tate's OTT CBeebies-style performance from The Runaway Bride. Otherwise, she'd better think about acting classes...

To be honest with you, after a season of Martha Jones i am quite relieved that Donna is back.

And - because they are both so totally different, I am almost looking foward to the return of Martha and the Dr having two companions.

Oh and

Correct me if I am wrong - but every channel are "ratings whores". After all if Dr Who doesn't get the ratings then it wont get made at all.

And please feel free to discuss the level of intelligence that people have if they find Tate funny with Debe, next time you are in the shop.

I look foward to pushing your bloody corpse out on to the street!! Very Happy

Tate is not funny. Admittedly, the first series was okay in places, but then it just all got embarrassing.

And no, some channels aren't ratings whore, and produce programmes that people will like.

If that were the case, every channel would be filled with makeover shows and the like, rather than documentaries and obscure foreign films that only attract a very, very limited audience.

My dear sir, you fool yourself.

The reason there are tv channels showing obscure films is that they can not produce makeover shows that the vast majority of muppets like to watch and are relagated to showing the films no one else shows so they can have any kind of audiance.

Name me one channel that would turn down Eastenders? And I hate that show, but people watch it. Hell, for those kind of ratings I wouldn't be suprised if Sky movies took it on!!! Shocked

And as for documentries. 1st of all I would guess that the BBC is involved in producing more of them than any other channel and also every now and then you get one that gets millions of viewers.

As fopr Tate, i would agree that she is hit and miss, but when she hits she is very funny. When she misses she is awful.

Mind you - I fail to see where her comedy show fits in to discussing her role in Dr Who.

OTT characters are all the range!

Initially I thought "Oh no", but I'm warming more to the idea.

Everyone seems to remember Tate's frenetic first 20 minutes from The Runaway Bride, but seem to forget that after then she calmed down and showed that she can act and the character devleoped. Unlike Rose and Martha, Donna isn't besotted with the Doctor, so that should make a refreshing change of direction for the companion.

And it should be interesting when Martha does come back to the Tardis.....

Exactly. No more mooning over the Dr. It was turning in to more of an unrequeted love sroty than a Sci-fi show!!

You do have a point there. I don't like Catherine Tate, she annoys me because she isn't funny (sorry debbie) and her stuff is too firmly rooted in the even more annoying chav culture. I haven't seen the runaway bride yet, maybe i should download it.

Catherine Tate's OK; like CapO says, very hit and miss. My biggest problems with some of her better sketches is that they drag on for far too long, way beyond the punchline has long been delivered. Give me Little Britain any day over Catherine Tate.

OK, it will be nice to not have someone fawn all over The Doctor (could mean that Tate'll be the one to get it on with him then) but they could also easily have done that by introducing a male companion... with Martha returning later in the season to restore the balance.

I'm sure that once the new series starts I'll like her. I was full of hate for Rose and Billie before they started, but soon came to like them, I just think it's a terribly cynical attempt by the BBC to draw in more viewers, instead of focusing on things like, I don't know, DECENT EPISODES, to win larger audiences.

Well - quality of the writting aside - I think Tates Donna character will really come in to her own when (as much as I hate to say it cos i don't really like the character) Martha returns.

I can see some interesting sparks flying then....

I just dont think that Catherine Tate makes a good choice, it was ok for a crap christmas special as no one expects very much from them anyway,
besides good acting and Catherine Tate are not words i would use in the same sentence, so come back Martha all is forgiven.
