Marvel have recently released trailers for their upcoming motion comics, Spider-Woman and Astonishing X-Men.
Spider-Woman looks absolutely fantastic in the art department, although I'm sure Maleev's art would have been fantastic without the motion effects. Still, I think it helps that Marvel were conservative with the motion effects; not only did they not distract from the artwork, but they didn't detract the feeling that this was a comic.
Astonishing X-Men looks absolutely horrible, not only due to a lack of Maleev, but by making all the mistakes with the motion effects that Spider-woman did not make. Motion is over-used and looks completely unnatural.
There are a couple of criticisms that I have for both trailers.
1) The writing, while it may sound good on paper, does not sound very natural to hear from human mouths. Taking my second criticism into account, Bendis and Joss Whedon both need to get their minds into "film/television mode" before writing motion comics.
2) The voice acting sucks balls. Seriously, it would be such a shame if a fantastic effort was to be let down by this one important element. I sincerely hope that it isn't going to take years before we see professional-sounding voice actors, like it did with the video game industry.
