Lead Me Not Into Temptation!I just have to post to say: "BatManuel - you are a bad, bad man!"
Now you have introduced me to the brilliant Warlock I am going to have to read all the Thanos and Infinty Gauntlet stuff at least - and I'm sure that is going to leave me wanting even more...I have never seen anything like it.
This is whole new area of comics that you have now laid out before me to tempt me with, you could teach the devil a thing or two
Sigh - I suppose we better talk about the getting hold of the trades then...
I also hold the rest of the forum responsible for making me interested in Marvel Superheroes - although luckily CyNic owns what I want to read already.

Yeah, CapO did the same thing to me when he made me read Nova. The Marvel-Cosmic books are a slippery slope, they're just so good. Plus there's a lot of British and British inspired talent working on the line at the moment, so it's kinda nice to support it.

Well what can i say you know i could probably sort out a run of the actual comics for the infinity stuff, i also belive i have the original two part prestige format books that kicked it all off, and on that note, if you liked Warlok you just have to read the Captain Marvels that preceded them, thay were the first works of this kind by Starlin and gave us Thanos with the Cosmic Cube in his possession, stonking
Don't hit me, please

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
See that is JUST what I mean!!!
I do want all of those things....and a pay rise!
Let me know what you've got as originals and how much they are etc by email and then I'll give you a ring and we can sort it all out.

They did it to me with the civil war (that would hurt ). Now i'm a marvel whore. oh and Cap O got me reading Nova too

Cap got me to read Annihilation Book One, then I bought the other two and Annihilation Conquest Bk One recently. He's a git.... but he's a git with good taste.

Don't worry Xeall, I think your VERY special. When you get that coffee that Bats has promised Debe will have the special yellow cup ready and waiting for you! (You may need to ask Debe to explain that to you, though i am sure you get the drift!)
But yes, Nova and Annihilation are bloody fantastic and highly recomended, especially if you are getting interested in Marvel's Cosmic stuff.
Also the upcomming Gaurdians of the Galaxy has the potential to be something well worth reading too. It is after all written by Abnett and Lanning the same team that is behind nova and Annihilation Conquest!

And if Marvel's cosmic stories don't do it for you, why not try something more down to earth like...
Astonishing X-Men Vol. 1 (reprints the first 12 issues) by Whedon & Cassaday
Captain America Omnibus (reprints the first 25 issues) by Brubaker & Epting
I'd go with more... but I think these two might suit you the most and are perhaps more representative of Marvel's higher quality works in recent years, particularly the superb Captain America run. Bear in mind I never liked Cap before...
And if Marvel's cosmic stories do work for you...
Nova is excellent (even though I don't currently buy it - put that down to the baby)
I've heard lots of good stuff about Guardians of the Galaxy, particularly the Valentino stuff.
So. CatFang. Have we spent your wages yet?

seconded
best not mention Daredevil then,
and Astro city from wildstorm
and killing pikman from a little known independent
And starshiptroopers from another little known indie....

I think you have - what's going on here - are you all on commission?
You've probably spent all my free time as well
| BatManuel wrote: | | best not mention Daredevil then, |
Yes - that's on the list. Just got to get it out of the boxes under the stairs!
| BatManuel wrote: | | And starshiptroopers from another little known indie.... Wink |
I think I might have a copy of that one somewhere...
What this site needs is a wish list / must read section - with links to the shopping basket

Didn't we start a thread like that?

We did do a recommended read list...
But with no links to the shopping cart.
All of which strikes me as quite a good idea - this way, we can spend CatFang's wages for next month too!
Any ideas on setting this up Bats and/or CapO...?
|
CatFang

oh, hang on, why don't I just post my bank account details right here
Or, better, I could just tell my work to send my wages straight to the shop.

Did I tell you I'm running a cheap comic shop

We have already done that one, don't really need to do another for the time being. although recommendations on newish stuff that no one has read yet might be good.... oh that will be the reviews then
I am more up for a BLAST FROM THE PAST which i am hoping Cat will kick off with a review of Warlok, hint hint
You see their really is an absolute ton of great stuff from the past that can be mined, absolute gems like the frank Miller and Bill Seinkwhatshisnamewich Electra Mini series which immediately springs to mind, not to mention Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol, Pete Milligans Shade and Jamie Delanos Animal Man, and thats just scratching the surface, and you know what some of this really cool stuff is really inexpensive.

Whoo Hoo, Milk on my cornflakes for me tomorrow
Oh on the suject of newish stuff both the ZOMBIES anthology and The Wolfmen book published by Accent UK are more than worth a look.

Oh and if you like old school comics that concentrate on story and character development <gasp!> then you MUST read the books that Valiant Entertainment are putting out.
Currently Harbinger The Beginigng is avalible and they are shortly bringing out X-O Manowar.
Quite frankly, in my opinion, the early Valiant books can be compared with ANYTHING printed by ANYONE - they really are that damn good.
Put it this way. the two people that have listened to me and brought a selection of the stuff have turned in to hardcore Valiant fans and ended up trying to buy everything! (one was a mate and one a customer who I had never met before, got me chatting about comics and next time he came in he had brought half the universe!!!)
Luckily for you, only the really, really good stuff is being reprinted right now, so get on board while it's cheap!!

Maybe worth making a forum topic section specifically for the recommended lists then, so they can always be found by new readers, or people wanting an idea of what to read for a change, and not fall down the list?
Topics could then be what the recommendations are about - eg by period, by publisher, by author, by subject matter or whatever?

What was that I heard? A heavy hint falling through the floor?

Yeah - gold top!
I still need you to email me with what original issues you have of infinity war / gauntlet and that prestige series you were talking about.

Oh - I've just realised I've done a stupid thing
Generally when I think about "Warlocks" and comics I think of Nemesis, not Adam - so I just wrote a review of the Nemesis Collection, thinking I was being all helpful, like BatManuel wanted...
I'd already posted it by the time CyNic asked why I was writing a review of that when the thread was about the other Warlock.
Oh dear...well, it means there is an extra review of a really good set of books and I will try and do the other one over the next few days.
