Is Cap coming back?

Does this advert signal the return of Steve Rogers?

Personally I hope not, but with the milestone issue Cap is about to hit, this may seem an obvious place to do so. I guess we'll see.
Robin The Boy Wonder

No, I don't think so.

I wonder if this may have something to do with Marvel celebrating their 70th anniversary...? I understand Brubaker & Epting are working on a mini-series that ties into Marvel's 70th and I daresay Captain America (Steve Rogers) would play a role in that.

Of course, I could be wrong.

Thinking about it... Marvel have teased the most wicked plot twist for Cap 600 so it could be something that may lead to the return of Steve Rogers.

My thinking is that Steve Rogers will return; it really is only a matter of time. We have to consider there will be a Captain America movie released in July 2011, coincidentally Cap's 70th anniversary. Before that point, I think its fairly safe to say Steve Rogers will return, although I wonder if his return will coincide with the 70th year and, of course, the movie...?

Ah, so many variables. All I can safely say, with any confidence...

If they never brought Steve Rogers back it would be too soon.  His death was borderline iconic and has effected so many books in the Marvel universe that it would be an almost Spider-Man Brand New Day event to write all of that off.  And then taking into account that we have a new Captain America anyway.

Steve Rogers (Captain America) has never left, as in the break between WW2 and the beginning of the Avengers,
he wasn't there his spirit was, and is now more than ever.
the world doesn't need a Steve Rogers, it needs a Hero,
and dead or alive it is this level of heroism that inspires, so you see,
Cap cant come back, because he never left to begin with.
Tony Stark on the other hand.... Very Happy

I admit that I haven't read Captain America before this issue, but this looks like an "evil clone" story.

1) One character (Falcon, I recall) refers to "bad Cap" in the latest issue.
2) The first-post image is black-and-white, which is a colouring Marvel have been using for Dark Reign.
3) The new Steve Rogers has a sinister scar.

Shocked  Shocked

The Brubaker Cap has been great, well worth the price of the Omibus/TPBs.

After reading "The Death of Captain America" and a few recent issues, I'm convinced the series is not for me. From reading Brubaker's work, I think his main strength is his character development, but the story jumps around so much that I find myself forced to ignore an insightful comment in favour of what's going on with another character.

The first issue of Daredevil's "Return of the King" has been the best writing I've seen from Brubaker simply because the story stays in one place.

I wouldn't regard the "Death of Captain America" as a good place to "jump on" to Brubaker's Cap, as a lot of the ground work for that story was laid in the previous issues Bru wrote, as well as the current issues. Smile

It supported my opinions of the most recent issues; namely Brubaker's stories are not nearly as interesting as his characters, but Brubaker continues to devote his energy to the stories anyway.

How does that validate your opinion exactly?

I concur, however i prefer to place my money on the comics rather than an omnibus or trade collection, but then i have been getting it monthly since it started, some don't have that history with the title so i suppose if you were looking to devote time and money to it it would have to be the omnibus, an awesome book it is too Very Happy

Well, actually now I wonder whether I'm not confusing my memories of the issue with "Death of Captain America". Alright, I'll wait until next issue before I make a firm decision on what I think of the series.

My money's on Steve Rogers coming back...

...next year.

OK so what do you know that we don't? come on spit it out... share.
I know you, you were the one who said that the Scarlet Witch was the one.

I do feel that it would be a mistake to bring back Cap as on the old school version that is, the Marvel Universe has a successor, it has the Modern Cap.

Like i have said before, Stay with this Modern Cap and only tell stories of the original (Steve Rogers) by means of flashbacks and past tense.

Well that's my opinion.

Besides they cant bring Steve Rogers back anyway, he's dead.

Now see here, that's just Cruel....

Cap BND....Noooooooooooooooo Crying or Very sad
Robin The Boy Wonder

Yes, I did say Scarlet Witch was the one, didn't I...?

Steve Rogers will return. 2010.

Here's why:

Marvel work extremely hard to ensure their printed product is immediately accessible for anyone who may have just seen a film. Look at how they're flooding the market presently with Wolverine-related series; how many appearances can Logan make in one month? Hell, Wolverine will ship three times in the month of May alone! - and that's before the title evolves into Dark Wolverine.

So, come 2011, when we're all misty-eyed upon seeing Captain America (mere months before we see him again in Avengers), there will be a flood of Captain America within the market.

Will Bucky Barnes be Captain America by then...?

Maybe.

But my money's on the man who will be on the cinema screen: Steve Rogers.

Marvel need to return Steve Rogers before the film and free him a little of any continuity before the film; this therefore makes 2011 too late to restore Mr Rogers. This year feels a little early, although I suspect Cap 600 will lay the foundations for the character's eventual return - although I'm still betting on next year for that.

See me in 12 months.

If I'm right, can I claim a year's free Captain America run?
Reaper

Grrrrrrrr

Well that's going to ruin the exceptional storyline we've had for the last two years.[/url]
Raien

With things like this, it's no wonder comic book readers are cynics.
Robin The Boy Wonder

To be honest, I can't see what all the fuss is about.

It was inevitable that Steve Rogers would return, particularly before the 2011 Captain America film. This does not necessarily mean the end is now on the horizon for Bucky Barnes.

Remember, in comics, dead does not mean dead. Just ask Bucky Barnes!
Reaper

I know it was basically inevitable but it's still annoying, they could at least have waited until a few months before the film is released.  That way the potential new readers jump onto a fairly fresh Captain America who has just recently returned to his post in a very similar vain to how he would do once he is resurrected from the Atlantic ocean.
