Wow. Very cool image and it looks very, very similar to the original armour as seen in the comics way back when.
As for being 'wank', only time will tell. It won't be Spider-Man, maybe not even X-Men (first two) or Batman Begins but it should be a darned sight better than Superman Returns.

Jon Favearu is a good director so should be good hopefully. The image there the Mark 1 armour, apparently by the end of the film you see the red/yellow armour.

I think the reason Iron Man is wearing a Super Soaker, is reverse psychology.
See, villians would see it, and think "hmm, he's using it as a weapon, he must not fear it. Now, he's not using guns, so maybe he fears those."
Thus, they use guns, to obviously no effect.
However, had they used a Super Soaker, WOAHHHH say hello to the Asphyxiated Rust Man!

Have to give Marvel credit for consistency. In the Ultimates series you've had a Samuel L Jackson lookalike as Nick Fury and apparently its very likely that Sam L Jackson will be making a brief appearance as..... Nick Fury in Iron Man.
|
waffle
|
heh - I just came here to post the very same thing.
Samuel L Jackson - it was a given really wasn't it?
|
Robin The Boy Wonder
|
Now... given the rumour that Marvel are quite keen for Robert Downey JR to reprise his role as Tony Stark in the proposed Avengers movie, I wonder if they would also consider doing the same with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.
Thinking about this for a minute, and considering the importance that Nick Fury has to the Captain America mythology, wouldn't it be cool if Samuel L. Jackson were to appear in that movie too?
I quite like the idea of Nick Fury taking a roving role between the Marvel movies; gives the movie franchise more of a shared universe feel.
|
Reaper
|
Which is something they could do with I think, though one of the big problems is that Marvel sold off the movie rights to various interconnected characters many years ago so getting that to happen doesn't look hugely likely.
Kinda like the Hobbit ever being made
|
Robin The Boy Wonder
|
Could they not do that with the Marvel Studios based movies though...?
Which may mean that Nick Fury could very easily appear in the Iron Man, Captain America & Avengers productions...
|
Reaper
|
Well yeah they could without a problem, I was thinking about the X-Men, Spider-Man etc fanchises that they sold off.
|
Robin The Boy Wonder
|
In Nick Fury's case, that wouldn't be a problem as he has very little to do with either Spider-Man or The X-Men but I can see how that perhaps affects a character like Ben Urich who plays a role in both the Spider-Man and Daredevil mythologies.
|
Reaper
|
They've released the first Main Cast shot of the Iron Man group.
Its the kind of thing they could use in a poster but will probably look more at home in a magazine article of some sort.
Paltrow and Bridges look very different to normal.
|
Robin The Boy Wonder
|
I had no idea that Gwyneth Paltrow was in the movie!
Robert Downey Jr really does look like Tony Stark, doesn't he?
And no matter how some of us may feel about Tony in the comics, I am hoping this movie is as good as it looks so far.

Don't forget those right have only been sold for a set amount of time - Marvel will get them back in the end.
|
Reaper

True although Fox made the original F4 movie in the early 90s solely to keep hold of the rights, so I'm not sure how that works in the scheme of things.

I cant help feeling, that the Iron-Man film will flop, i doesen't matter that the film might be good, it doesen't matter that Marvel have tried to make Iron-Man a force in the Marvel Universe, at the end of the day he is a second stringer, much like Ghost Rider, and that was a great movie, did it do well? not really, why? because most people didn't know who he was.
and the iron-man, well who the F**K is he....

Iron Man on the cover of Empire...?
I know the reaction has been fairly middling on the site... but it is encouraging to see a second-tier character given that level of exposure on the cover of one of the UK's prominent movie magazines. It's not even his first appearance in the last six months... he was also on the Bryan Hitch drawn cover earlier this year...
Any exposure has to be good for not only the movie but also the industry in general.
Personally, I think the movie will do fairly well. It's not going to draw Spider-Man numbers, may struggle to give The Dark Knight a run for its money (although the gross for Batman Begins was nowhere near Spider-Man levels itself) but will surely do better than Daredevil and Ghost Rider.
If the film is good and it enjoys positive critical review (and my hopes here are high), then it may do well.

Now that looked hot, i'm looking forewards to it being about Tony Stark and not just iron man, as to be honest iron man doesent have much to go on as a character. But the suits do look very cool, looking forewards to this quite a bit.
