Ion rumourApparently the Ion mini finishes with Kyle punching his way into the bleed and possibly encountering The Carrier. Seems to tie in with the Kingdome Come references in JSA and the hints being dropped in 52. I assume Nightwing is involved somewhere after all the stuff about him being the centre of the DC universe and how he and Kyle are supposed to be dead.
Shame that so much important stuff has been revealed in a title as dreadful as Ion, especially when the other titles covering the topic are so good. But it sounds interesting at any rate.

I know DC have something major planned for later in the year...
Here's an image DC have recently posted:
Got it? Good.
And have you noticed that the Robin costume featured is the one from Kingdom Come...?

Looks like Doc Midnite to me but you're probably right. I hope this isn't the lineup for the main crossover, anything with Barda and Scott Free in a big role is already pushing panic buttons for me. Sure DC are fast becoming masters of revamping duff characters, but with them...I mean, the guy's an escape artist called Scott Free for gods sake. There's a limit to what a writer can do for a character like that.
Why do crossover previews for DC always have to be pictures of Superman crying, Wonder Woman giving him a cuddle and Batman looking grim. Can't we just cut to the chace and get a picture of The Flash looking concerned?

In that picture, Big Blue just wants to get closer to WW's rack! Lookit that, he's just about using them as ear muffs!
And I'm concerened with that picture. Who the HELL is that lying dead, on the far right? That better not be who I think it is.
But Ion encountering the Carrier? Bloody hell, about TIME something happened with the Authority. They didn't even show up in the first issue of their own book. Let alone the 4 month over due 2nd issue.
You're going to have to enlighten me as to what exactly is going on in the DCU at the moment, the only thing I get is TT and the Flash, but all thats told me is something is going on with Batgirl, and Inertia is back, as well as Match, who's gone from being a perfect Superboy clone, to being Bizzaro Jr.
I want answers! What exactly has been going on in 52? Why is Nightwing dressed as Red Robin? Whats going on with Ion? Why are he and Nightwing meant to be dead? Why does Batman have a Sword?
IN FACT! What the hell is up with Batman in that picture?! He's wearing like a gown!?

Well Bats was training in Asia during 52 and there have been a lot of eastern connections in Morrison's run so that could be what's going on there. The thing with Ion and Nightwing is that apparently in the original pitch for Infinate Crisis Nightwing was supposed to die but was replaced with Kyle and then Conner. Then in Ion the Monitors reappeared and told Kyle that certain people were meant to have died in Crisis and that he was one of them (I can't remember where Dick found out that he was as well it might have been 52). Basically certain DC characters are already dead in the eyes of the universe and the fact that they are still alive could cause reality to collapse on itself, hence the Monitors want to kill them. The thing about Nightwing being the center of the universe is based on a real life observation that he can be used to link almost all of the DC characters in some way and that he is kinda the window through which we see the DCU. It's been hinted at in some books but whether it actually means anything or is just a sly wink to comments of the DC staff is anyone's guess.
In terms of other DC stuff, J'onn found out that he's not the last martian and has gone off the deep end. He's on the run from the government and breaking his oath of non murder left right and centre. (I think I can get away with pointing out how good this title is one more time before I start to sound crazy); JLA have reformed with a very different lineup and Red Tornado is REALLY important; JSA have some new members, are discovering links with the Kingdome Come universe and starring in one of the best books currently shipping. So far as 52, I'm not going to speculate too much on it because I'm really enjoying it and I just like to take every issue as it comes rather than trying to second guess it (despite DC Nation's attempts to blow the plot every week).

I think there may be an upcoming arc in Batman where he goes back to Egypt...? I may be wrong but I'm fairly certain that's the case, and I guess his costume redesign is due to that story.
...and if you were Superman, wouldn't you wanna get closer to Wonder Woman's big, pointy breasts?

Oh come on.
I cant be the only person here thinking "What?"
Why the hell are DC trying to tie in the Wildstorm universe with the DCU? I thought the whole point of the various Crisis was to give ONE Universe!
Pre Infiante Dissapointment they did a cross over with Superman/Majestic/Captain Atom which i believe they are still resolving.
All well and good. Quite enjoyed it.
But if they want to merge Wildstorm and the DCU - get the hell on with it! Dont muck around hinting at Kingdom Come links - which is yet another Universe anyway - Elseworlds remember?
The problem here is Kingdom Come is one of the best DC stories ever and they are desperatly trying to link it in with their main universe as they can't come up with anything half as good by themselves at the moment!

No... I think the plan behind Infinite Crisis was to ultimately restore the Multiverse... whether it was intended to be part of that story or not, I couldn't say...
I'm thinking DC Multiverse within the next 18 months. You heard it here first!

So the original Crisis took part because the multiverse was both complecated and crap.
And now 20 years on, they have run out of ideas to such an extent you are saying you think there are going back to it????
Marvel must crack open an new bottle of bubbley ever time they read a DC book at the moment!
Ok there are a couple of exceptions - but 2 years ago DC was doing all the partying! What went wrong?

I think anyone whose read the Batman/Elija Snow crossover can see why this is a good idea...by that I mean the good crossover...the one with the can of Bat-Supersoldier-Repelant...not the one where they stab him in the head with a broadsword.
I agree Crisis was messy, but most of the buildup to this event has been so good that I'm happy go along for the ride on this and see where DC takes it. It's quite nice to have Marvel trying to ground its stories in reality and DC exploring all the fun wacky things that you can do with a superhero universe. Both approaches work if done well and both companies are doing them well at the moment, win/win I say.

Man, that Batman/Planetary crossover was awosome.
And the Multiverse isn't crap, its only crap in the Main DCU. In the Wildstorm U, its brilliant! The Bleed!
Yeah, I know the Captain Atom Armageddon left the Wildstorm U in a bit of a state, I've just heard noises about some old Stormwatch characters not being dead.
I still want to know what's happened with the Authority, seeing as most of them died in the Captain Atom thing.
And as long as Elija has his own Carrier, I'm hoping to see him popping up in a few more places.
But seriously, on that picture, one of the dead guys? I only know 4 people in the DCU who wander round in a suit and a trenchcoat. They are NOT going to kill John Constantine. I will not let them.
So who is the other Martain then? I know that there's a Miss Martian in the Titans at the moment, but shes a White Martian, so she doesn't count. Theres loads of them. Why is Red Tornado important now?
What else have I missed by not reading 52? And Ion. And Nightwing. And JSA. And JLA. Or anything in the DCU thats not TT and the Flash?
|
kingmouse

Ion basically revealed that Kyle is now the living embodyment of the Green Lantern Corps and so has to act like a special agent for Oa. Other than that it's not really worth picking up, nor is Nightwing, they're just not very good titles despite the big plot content.
The other Martians are (I think) a research team that left Mars before the plague and crashed on earth recently. They were captured by the US government and have been held in captivity ever since while scientists try to find ways to replicate their powers and develop weapons to kill them should more appear. Something goes wrong at the facility and one manages to escape and make telepathic contact with J'onn before they can kill him and now J'onn and the other martians are on the run. The others haven't been able to get their powers to work properly yet and the people chasing them have tonnes of kit specially designed for fighting them, plus the JLA aren't sure that they want to help the them on this one. It's kinda like 24 except with a green telepath instead of Jack Bower.

From what i can see the only person that the 4th dead person could be would be the Question.
The first two were the blue beatel that died in countdown to infinite crisis, the second was i guess Max Lord, who also died before Infinite crisis, i dont know when jade died, and i think the Question is going to die fairly soon in 52, if not today even.
So that picture makes no sence to me, but go figure.
The only other updates i can supply are:
* Superman - being told that he has to quit as he is just delaying the eventuall destruction of earth and making it worse. In his other title Richard Donner is causing such delays in printing that i Genueinly cant rember.
*Fiestorm - He has now got a permanant merge with the proff and is aresing around with gina [his girlfriend] who they still havent finished explaining over the last 20 isues. Nothing important there.
* Green Arrow - He has become Mayor of Star City, Totally retrained to be a real hardass and is now [with the aid of batman] stoping the red hood [with the aid of brick [still an underdeveloped character in my eyes]]from transporting drugs and guns. Still nothing universe Bending. What is it i keep hearing about the red hood [Jason Todd] now being Nightwing, or am i going mad.
The only other thing i'm reading is miniseries [mysteries in space and Connor Hawkes: Dragons Blood]

Here's a question regarding the DC pic:
Who exactly is posing where the Statue of Liberty should be?
And that leads me to: Why are the DC Heroes clearly in NYC rather than a fictional DC city?
And has anyone else spotted the Atom's arm yet...?
|
The Rascal King

Because Coast City has already been destroyed once, and no one can be bothered with another Zero Hour at the moment.

I think that was false rumour that was put right in DC nation, but I could be wrong. Todd was revealed to be a giant slug monster which eats people a while ago but ign declared that issue to be one of the worst bits of comic making they had ever seen so I avoided it. I'm sure someone will work out how to make Todd work at some point since there's clearly a lot of potential but right now he's pretty pointless, not least because Damien is such a better foil for Batman.
Oh yeah, Bruce has a son that's pretty important. He's called Damien and he was raised by Tallia Al Gul. Sounds daft but it's Grant Morrison's plot line and works really well. There's an issue where he fights Tim which has one of the best panals of last year with Tim lying in the smashed remains of the display case that houses Jason's costume.
Not sure whether New York exists in DC. They do have some real cities. Mike Grell moved Olly and Canary to Seattle for the Longbow Hunters story (one of the best DC stories out there). But I thought that Gotham was supposed to be where New York is since since that's where the name Gotham comes from.

Right
1. The 4th Dead person appears to me to be the Phantom Stranger.
2. To the best of my, admittidly rusty, DCU knowledge all the actual cities in America exsist but there are also extra ones.
Indeed in JLA/Avengers one of the JLAers comments that the MU's America is smaller as there in no Gotham, Metropolis etc.
I am shocked at our DCers not knowing this...
Must prove marvel has the better fans.... < batons down the hatches ane prepears himself for the sh*t strom that could soon start>

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Batmannys got it. There are actual cities, but just extra ones as well, ie: Coast, Central, Keystone, Star, Gotham, Metropolis.

Man, I'm still not convinced about #4. Look at him!
This is the Phantom Stranger
He wears a differnt colour trenchcoat, and has a hat.
The guy in the teaser picture, is wearing a black suit, white shirt, black tie and a light brown trenchcoat.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's Question. Phantom Stranger is a great chracter though.

Dan Didio revealed this weekend two interesting tidbits about that picture:
The Red Robin costume is being worn by none other than Jason Todd.
That Flash...? Why, it's Barry Allen!!!

Well in the last Crisis Barry appeared from the speed force and helped Bart capture Superboy Prime. Plus the Flash Costume that Bart wears now is Barry's old one (because it was the only thing that could survive the trip back from the speed force ) So it could be a curveball. Also Wally and his family are apparently alive and well in some other dimension, so who really knows what's going on. Maybe it's the heroin addict one from Earth 3.
|
The Rascal King
|
Yeah, all the Speedsters live on in the Speed Force, ie Max Mercury, Johnny Quick and Barry Allen, they're the ones who helped out Bart and Wally take Superboy Prime away, but then during the time that Bart was away and aged 4 years, in the Speed Force, I think, he ended up absorbing the entire Speed Force into himself. So he's sort of like Parralax or Ion with the Central Power Battery, but with the Speed Force now.
|

Ah, think I may have answered the Bat-costume riddle in this one. I don't think it's Bruce. Going by some of the preview covers for Morrison's new arc, I reckon it's Damien.

If that isnt batman i think ive found a link between all the living characters [except green arrow, superman and Wonder Woman], they are all second versions of their characters but im not all that sure.
|
The Rascal King
|
Well, if they end up bringing Superboy back (possible), then you've also got Donna Troy or the new Wonder Girl, Cassie Sandmark I think, who could fill in for Diana, seeing as shes being an FBI agent, I think? Then you could also have Conner Hawk who was Green Arrow once, when Ollie was dead, or Arsenal filling in. Could be an alternate earth (back to the Multiverse)
|

Connor Hawke is still GA, they use that as an 'element of supprise' thing quite often.

Plus Roy has all but taken over from Olly now and he IS the archer in Kingdom Come (though I think he's called Red Arrow) so there could be a link there.
To be honest I hope it is Olly. Crossovers just aren't the same without the grumpy Socialist with a bow.
