What like the new star wars films did, compared to the old ones.
You may be asking for to much im afraid.
Reaper

Thankfully Lucas didn't write this script so it should be ok Very Happy

Jim Broadbent has just joined the cast as well.
The Rascal King

I thought I heard that Sean Connery was back in it to be Harrisons dad again?
Reaper

Nope he wrote that rumour off at the beginning of last week.
Reaper

The first shot from the new movie.....

I think this also has a lot to do with our expectations going into the film.

With The Phantom Menace, everyone was expecting greatness on a par with the original trilogy and psyched ourselves up to the point where we were all expecting way too much for any motion picture to deliver. Now that I'm finally past all that, I sat down and watched The Phantom Menace only the other day; I thoroughly enjoyed it. I found myself watching it as if it were a completly different film; I guess you could say my expectations for it had changed.

The same will happen with Indy IV. I don't expect the film to be the best thing since sliced bread; as long as it's a good Indy picture, I'll be happy. Although, that said, Raiders of the Lost Ark is my all-time favourite film so my expectations aren't that low...
Reaper

I've said to all the people who didn't like the prequel trilogy and said it ruined the whole Star Wars thing, that they should just view it as an alternative reality. I do, the only part of it I really tend to keep in mind is the fight between Anakin and Kenobi.

Yes i think you may be right, that and jar jar binks,
So what we have to do then is to expect that the new ROTLA film will be crap, and we should be alright. Smile

Sean Connery... oh ho, LXG anyone, and how bad was that, so on that and that alone its going to be awful.... see easy Laughing

Ah, Jar Jar Binks. Who was it that recommended that Senator Palpatine become Emperor again...? Yep, Jar Jar. So, who do we have to blame for the Empire dominating all...? Jar Jar bleedin' Binks.

Although Ann loved him.

But that's a separate story altogether.

For what it was, LXG was quite a good film. Just forget the source material ever existed and you'll be fine. Except we can't forget, can we...?

And that's another TPB added to my shopping list. I've just remembered I've not read either one of the League runs yet.

...

Anyhow, Indy IV.

Is it just me... but does anyone feel both that they really want to see this film but, at the same time, wish that it were never going to be made?
The Rascal King

I'll agree with that Robbie.
Jesus, would you look at how old Indie is? Man, what sort of archealogical crap are they after? Him?
And seriously, you'd have thought that after a while, he'd have getten himself some new bloody clothes.
Reaper

It's a tough one because it could be great and then we'd be pleased or it could be naff and we'd all be really annoyed.

The expectations of Episode 1 did affect how people saw it. Lucas in an interview stated that, he likened it to people expecting the second coming. Come on its a film.

Doesn't mean it was a great film though

I agree.

As piles of festering turds go, it was pretty good.

As for the new Star Wars films

I didn't go to see them at the cinema, except for the last one cos Lea insisted that we went out and the other option was even worse, cos I expected them to be a bit poo and i was not dispapointed.

I am sorry, but the original triliogy was driven by the basic "poor boy becomes a knight" story that was very well excecuted and, as good stories of this type do, made you feel that you could be Luke Skywalker, if only someone taught you how to use the force.

Another reason was the strength and complexity of the supoorting cast and sub plots.

So to be honest, all the strengths of the first films were completley lacking in the subsequent ones.

Thats why people complained.

Lets hope they dont forget what makes the Indy films great, eh?

You did read the rest of that sentence, didn't you?

I definitely think it helped me that I hadn't read the source material. I'll likely feel different about the film when I have.

It's one of several reasons although I should point out that, we always knew, as an audience, what the story was going to be for the 'first' trilogy. They had always been promoted as Anakin's fall from grace and becoming Darh Vader and therefore was never going to be the story we were presented with in the 'second' trilogy (that trilogy thing confuses me, y'know).

The film not living up to expectations also plays a part. As an audience, we expected way too much - and that's because the original trilogy was that damned good.

Yes ... but you can still wash your mouth out, with soap and water this time, You too Cap, no excuses, go on, bathroom for the pair of you. Laughing
Ps Boy Wonder, do you like my new avatar? Smile

It is pretty cool, I have to admit. Cool

Can't quite work out what side you're on though! Wink

Indeed.

So as i say - I was not that excited when they were announced - they were never going to be the same type of film and I felt that they would only do a worse job....

You know it never gets boring, being right!!! Very Happy

simple really Smile

Well according to a few sources Harrison Ford is doing most of his own stunts for Indy IV though he needs a few more Ice packs and massages than he used to.

There was a widespread rumour a couple of days ago that there would be some more films after this one with Ford dropping in as a cameo in three of them. Lucasfilm have since completely denied that rumour saying its just internet fans getting a little too excited.
Reaper

Technically now we could move this thread over to the Comic related section as they've just released the cover of the Graphic Novel for the upcoming film.

Seems a bit odd that Shia whatshisface is on the front when people like Cate Blancett or Winstone aren't....

Xeall

where are the nazis? i will be upset if there aren't nazis........or chewbacca i'm not fussy
Reaper

'I'm not fussy' or should that be fuzzy
The Rascal King

Though you would think it, Nazi's aren't a pre-requisite of Indy. Temple didn't have any Nazi's.

...Thought! Who beats up Nazi's as a matter of course, and deal almost exclusivly with the Occult? Hellboy and Indiana Jones. Team up, anyone?
Reaper

Can you see either of them backing down to let the other do something first?
norsefire1

the trailer is up if people go to the empire mag website and follow the links then they can see it there.
