IDW Boldly Goes

IDW Boldly Goes
To Revive 'Star Trek' Comics

The 40th Anniversary of the Star Trek franchise this year was marked by the release of Star Trek manga from Tokyopop. Now comes news that the January 2007 20th Anniversary of the Star Trek: The Next Generation, the series that revived the Star Trek TV franchise, will be the occasion for IDW's revival of the Star Trek American comic book legacy that stretches back to the first Star Trek Gold Key comics in the late 1960s and includes stints at Marvel, DC, Malibu, and Wildstorm.

IDW's six-issue mini-series, Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Space Between will span the expansive Next Generation timeline. Writer David Tischman (Bite Club), will pen the story with Casey Maloney penciling the interior art and Dennis Calero and Zach Howard providing two covers for the first issue (at a 50/50 ratio).

IDW plans to publish additional Star Trek titles based on the numerous iterations of the popular television franchise

With Millions of Variant covers its just what we need.... or not.

Hasn't this franchise had its day...?

I guess IDW are running with the assumption that a number of Trek fans are comic book readers... but, following Enterprise's collapse, I have the distinct impression that even Trek fans are fed up with Star Trek.

Of course, with Star Trek XI in the planning stages, they'll probably try to cash in with some form of tie-in... yep, that's why they're doing it, I guess!

I'd guess its the same as anything...

As in if its done well they will buy it!

However - if the normal route of relying on the Lisence to sell the book rather than the quality of the book to promote the lisence - well then it will suck big time!
