well that was a waste of time, people dont go see this movie, just read the book or see the "the last man on earth", such a bad movie.
Robin The Boy Wonder
I'm thinking about seeing it...
What's the problem with the film...?
The Rascal King
Really? I thought it was quite entertaining.

i know in the past i have said that films of books in basic can never be the book that it is inspired by, but this film rips the soul of the book away and leaves it for the "darkseekers" or whatever those bad CGI things where.haveing re read the book the other day, it is clear that will smith feels the need to take the rise out of some of the best books ever put to print. whats it next will 1984 playing the lead ok dont get me wrong i adore children of men which has not much to do with the book but what it does is keep the books nuts and bolts, i am legend just wanted to be slighty better go at the omega man, which in its on way was better then will smiths go at things.

I had heard that besides the crap CGI vamp things the film wasnt bad.
Robin The Boy Wonder
I'm still going to see it (unless Ann and her cousin win the fight for a foursome to see PS. I Love You!)... although Ann has pointed out, from the trailers, that it looks like it's ripping off 28 Days Later.
Fortunately, I've never read the source material and, with the exception of Lord of the Rings; whenever I have read the source, I usually walk away disappointed. Maybe that'll help...
Out of interest, I remember reading in Empire last month that, ten years ago, Ridley Scott was planning to direct with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead... oh, how things could have been oh so different...
Reaper
Ridley would have made it watchable
PS I Love You is meant to be crap

It's resoundingly average. The CGI is aweful but the sets are beautiful so they kinda balance out, however the movie seems to suffer from a chronic lack of direction. It wants to be a tense survival horror, but also wants to be an examination of isolation and madness. The result is that while the action scenes are tense and exciting, the attempts at character development and emotional moments just feel long-winded and unnecessary.
The relationship between the creatures and the protagonist is handled sloppily so that there's little to connect them besides the fact that they hang out in the same place and one wants to eat the other. Will Smith is a baffaling choice for the lead roll as well. Sure he's a great (if limited) actor and the intention has obviously been to try and get him to appeal to the audience in a macho, testorone level (you may not care that his family died, but you want to see him kick some zombie/vampire/baldguy ass so you're behind him). Unfortunatly they neglected to give him any good scenes where he could score on this level and the character actually comes off as a bit of a wimp when faced with his enemies. Given this direction, somebody like Jeff Goldbloom would have been a more logical choice, allowing them to play the geeky scientist who has somehow survived by being smart and lucky.
The other characters are non-entities and the pointless reflections about the exisitance of god are brain-killingly overt and just serve to pad out some already slow sequences.
If you're totally stuck for something to see (which is likely this time of the year) then it's sort of worth checking out just for the wonderfully tense first hour or so. Just don't go in expecting anything outstanding because it misses the mark it's aiming for by about the 1.5 hour mark and pretty much coasts home from there.

Seems to be I'm one of the few who quite enjoyed this film, same with Hitman.... maybe my taste in films is slipping. Anyway, for me the film was fairly good and the main issues tend to arise from the CGI and the god references but the latter can be ignored because they aren't that constant. The CGI can be looked at in two ways, it was either a bad nasty--ish looking choice or it helped to give the beasties an otherworldy look to them, though thats a bit of a justification for bad CGI.
I would say that the film handled the isolation and loneliness factor pretty well, Will Smith managed to pull of the parts where his character was seemingly going mad very well, the only really problem is, is that the film hints at it and then explodes with it and then hints at it again, bit of a weird mix. Will Smith generally is a very good actor and I don't agree that he can be classed as limited, he pulls off emotional scenes including loss and raging anger far better than most modern actors (see Pursuit of Happyness) and displays that fairly well in this, particularly after the darkseeker doggie incident.
Yes the other characters are a bit non entities but that was kind of the point, you aren't meant to care about them, Will Smiths character is the important one, the last man on earth.
Though the darkseekers are a bit non entity-ish, they don't feature that heavily which does to an extent add to the isolation of the film. What I personally would have liked to have seen would be information on why the virus mutated from its humble beginnings, that would have been interesting to know and saved myself and sarah from debating over it last night.
Maybe I'm way out on my opinion with this one, maybe a second viewing will reveal the lacklustre bits embedded in the film, its happened before like that.
