die hard 4Just saw the preview for the new die hard and although no doubt when it comes out i will go and see it as it does look quite good when the first die hard came out there were not much out in the way of big action movies but now there are lots and 16 blocks could have been a die hard movie if they just changed the characters name [/b]

The preview put me off a little bit, it didn't look or feel like a Die Hard movie to me. I don't think it helps that Len Wisemann is directing it and I don't really rate him that highly. 16 Blocks was far too sombre to be a Die Hard film, good film though.

16 Blocks was an inferior remake of The Gauntlet.

Haven't seen The Gauntlet but I quite enjoyed 16 Blocks, so if its better I may have to get round to viewing it.

I think the original Die Hard was [loosely] based on a book, i rember seeing this in hte title credits and then thinking, that would be some poor ass book but a great film.
I havent seen the trailer yet, but im enthusiastic.

Classic Clint Eastwood flick from the 70s.UK tv always used to show the badly cut US tv version - really bad picture and sound, but the dvd is the cinema version as I assume would be shown on the movie channels.
16 Blocks was a good film,it's just that it annoys me when remakes are not up to the original especially if they are deemed worthy of classic status such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre or The Fog - so I don't hold much hope for the remake of Halloween.
There are of course exeptions,I thought Hills Have Eyes was much better than the original.

Seeing as I've nothing better to do here's some info on the original Die Hard
Based on the book Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorpe (no I've never heard of it or him before)He also wrote The Detective which was made into a film starring Frank Sinatra.
Cinematography by Jan De Bont who later directed Speed,Twister and Lara Croft Cradle of Life
The German that the terrorists speak is sometimes grammatically incorrect and meaningless. In the German version of the film, the terrorists are not from Germany but from "Europe". Only Alan Rickman's lines made any sense.
Originally the film was going to be made as Commando 2 and the first choices to play the Willis role were Swarzenegger (naturally),Stallone,Burt Reynolds and Richard Gere.

Richard Gere as John McClane?!?
Thank Christ they didn't go for that one. I mean, seriously, Richard Gere in Die Hard?!?
It'd be like casting Arnold Schwarznegger as Jesus in a film depicting the last days of Christ (not that it's not been done before)... Although, in a very twisted way, that could be fun!
