Captain Ameri-Punisher

I struggle to see anything good in this concept, but I've yet to read anything so I'll reserve judgment until then, but I'm not optimistic.
Reaper

Heh Captain America for the new world... fantastic Wink
Robin The Boy Wonder

That looks more like Chris Bachalo to me than it does Ariel Olivetti...

Still, Marvel have had many, many good ideas recently. This wouldn't appear to be one of them.
kingmouse

Well he DOES have the mask and spin for his new series was that it was all about what he did with it.

Can't say that pictures got me drooling in anticipation though.
Reaper

One thing that won't work is the Punisher being a masked guy, he works nicely as a nutter with a gun and no mask Very Happy
The Rascal King

And Batman works fine as a masked nutter with no guns.

Best of both worlds?
Reaper

The mask suits batman though, the Punisher donning a mask doesn't really seem right. Still he'll kill things so it'll be cool Very Happy
The Rascal King

So, with a mask, and the Punishers trademark leather trenchcoat, and killing things....
He's turning into the Midnighter?
Longshot

where's that pic meant to be from, it looks cool enough.

But i agree, isnt one of the most important things about the punisher that he's meant to strike fear into the hearts of people, and with a mask you can't really see its frank, so he looses his edge.

But then again in the most recent war journals he isnt noticed to be the bar man by S**T loads of vilans.
Web of Fear

The pic is on the Marvel website.

Captain America and the Punisher are the antithesis of each other, but from Civil War, the Punisher clearly respects Cap. I can only guess that this is Frank's tribute to Cap.

It just looks so dumb, though. Punisher has never really been a "costume" kind of character. The skull has really been nothing more than a motif. The weird fusion of the stars and skulls just looks so ackward together. Any criminals would probably die laughing.....

I find it hard to believe that the Punisher as shown in Reaper's avatar is meant to be the same Punisher in the pic at the top of the thread.
Reaper

But atleast they would die Very Happy
Web of Fear

Maybe it's Frank's new weapon in his endless war on scum.....
Robin The Boy Wonder

Perhaps Frank's wearing out of some kind of respect for Captain America although, if that were so, wouldn't he then try to not kill his enemies also...?

Which may be an interesting storyline... if Frank respects Cap that much, wouldn't he then try to do things the way Cap would want him to...? Sure, it wouldn't last (and shouldn't) but it may make for an interesting storyline nevertheless.
Guest

Perhaps its just a variant cover to get fan boys speculating.

Bet whatever it is it happens in War Journel.
Robin The Boy Wonder

It's the variant cover for Punisher War Journal No 7.
Guest

Well there you go then

in an effort to keep the Punisher main stream he will probably wear this costume to hunt a old Cap villian who he thinks is responsable for Caps death.

Or it will just be a variant cover, cos Castle has Caps mask and Marvel do love to get the fan boys stirred up. Cover to Spider-man Reign #1 anyone....
kingmouse

I'd love to see them do a gag about Frank trying learn to throw a sheild.
Guest

<Sings>

"When the Punisher throws his mighty shield...

Its only to distract the villians from the hand grenades that follow it!!!"
kingmouse

I just have an image in my head of him standing next to a headless body with a bloody manhole cover in his hand while trying to work out why that never happens when Cap does it.
Reaper

Maybe its in the wrist action
Longshot

I liked frank's reaction at the end of the last war journals, it suggests that this could be something he does to avenge Cap's death.
Actually ive quite enjoyed the whole thing about this series being about franks respect for cap. I did think that in #1 the fact that he trained him was a big step, but it sets up the grounds for this whole series.
I'm now starting to wonder how long it will be till one of Punishers series gets canceled, as he isnt big enough for 2 is he. well i guess if wolverien gets 8 then maby he is.
Robin The Boy Wonder

It would appear that the Captain Ameri-Punisher costume is more than just Marvel releasing an image to get the fanboys salivating. Here's the cover to Punisher War Journal No 8:

The Rascal King

Captain Punisher vs Captain Nazi?
Funtimes.
Azadhar

As cool as i think the idea of a captain nazi is, I still think that this is ridiculous, ill be sticking to the max series
kingmouse

If you want a Captain Nazi pick up JSA. They have one there as one of the main villains...despite the fact that Jason Todd killed him in Batman a while ago. Well I suppose he IS a super-Nazi. They can do stuff like that.
The Rascal King

Yeah, I was going to say, he's a Captain Marvel villan.
Well, the DC Captain Marvel.
Reaper

Is that his actual name or the name you lot have given him?
The Rascal King

What else is he going to be called? I mean, come on!
Reaper

Jewish Protector?
The Rascal King

Wait, which one are we talking about here? I was talking about the one covered in Swastikas.
Reaper

So was I, the Swastika sign is traditionally a Jewish symbol of protection Razz
Guest

Was it Jewish or Romainian Gypsie?

I cnat remember.

But was def originally a sign of protection.

And man would that be a cool superhero!!

A magical/mystical jewish hero with a huge Swastika on his chest!!!!
The Rascal King

I thought it was Hindu?
Reaper

I know at some point in history it was definitely a Jewish sign but from what I've heard elsewhere there are various depictions of it in other cultures and a lot them do revolve around protection.
Guest

Hmm, so does anyone know why the Nazis use it then?

Protecting a "pure" bloodline maybe?
Azadhar

Simply because at its purest form the swastika is a hindu simple used by the Brahmins, who are the highest cast of Hinduism and since most of them hail from Kashmir are actually amongst the whitest people on the planet, hance the connection to the swastika being an aryan symbol. Furthermore aryan means white in sanskrit
The Rascal King

Who cares why the Nazi's used them. They weren't exactly the most sound of minded people on the planet.
Honestly, anything done/thought by the Nazi's can pretty much be thought of as "stupid+mental".
Reaper

They did manage to bring us HellBoy, so not all bad Wink
The Rascal King

HAH!

To be honest mate - that attitude really scares me.

If we do not pay attention to mistakes made in the past, and just write the whole thing off as stupid+mental we dont learn anything from them and then we run the risk of making them again.

We must remember that the Nazis were voted in too power. Lots and lots of people believed that they were a good thing. Hell at one point England used Adolf Hitler as a positive example of how a strong leader can take a country to greatness!!!

If we don't learn from our mistakes we are doomed to repeat them.
Robin The Boy Wonder

And lest we forget, were it not for the Americans (and I can't believe I'm saying this), we'd probably all be speaking German today.

Adolf Hitler, despite his eccentricities and the mistakes made during the latter years of the war, proved to be an excellent military strategist. His first mistake came when he believed that he could divide his forces by invading Russia while consolidating his stranglehold in Europe and bombing the British. Stupid mistake? Mental mistake? Not really. Over-confident comes to mind.

As for various Nazi horrors (Holocaust) we should learn from these mistakes and do what we can to ensure they never happen again... so what then have the Americans learnt with their terrorist holding camps, I wonder...?
Reaper

Well we've seen Ameri-Punisher now in all his glory, still not sure if its a great thing or not.
Robin The Boy Wonder

As I don't buy Punisher: War Journal, can you let me know what happened...? Curiousity is killing this cat, y'see!
Batmanuel

No and i cant believe you are saying it either, Johnny come lately yanks take the glory, Bah, we still would have won without there help, the Russians helped win the war more than those gum chewing yanks, they were the first to show the Germans that they were not invincible,
and lets not forget the elite British commandos that Churchill created
Robin The Boy Wonder

I'm not so sure we would have won the war without the Americans. I'm not about to give them too much credit but the one advantage they did give us was a numerical one - something we sorely needed for D-Day to work.

But let me ask you this: what do you think would have happened had the Americans not gotten involved?

(Not that this has anything to with Captain Ameri-Punisher but...)
Batmanuel

Boy Wonder:

We would have won, simple, remember it was not just Americans and British on D Day, other countries were involved, it was a world war after all. and maybe now we wouldn't be in Americas pocket, dont know about everyone speaking German, that was never going to happen, but we are sure as hell all talking American.
Reaper

Sadly had the Americans not intervened we would either have won the war over a much longer period of time or we would have lost, for a start when the US came in they lent us much needed money to fund the war effort. Intelligence wise we didn't need the yanks, hardware and personel wise we did.
Longshot

On a totaly different point, what do people think of the current run on war journals. just read #6 and liked it alot. i'm really enjoying the artwork [pictures and art all together, its like who framed roger rabit, but not moving]. i like the sidekick thing, cause its not too stuck in but its somone to shout at [noowhere near as good as whats her face in MAX was tho]. I do like the fact that it is alot of 1 issue stories, not 6 issue arcs, why does noone else do this [superman has been forced to by delays and if youd read 661 you might try and kill them]. I'm looking forwards to alot of sorting things out, but alot less killing in the next 2 issues, its really going against the MAX titles in that was, but i think that this MAX story has been going far too slowly.
Reaper

I've quite enjoyed the new War Journal series during and post the Civil War, some of the stories have been quite interesting. Issue #5 was quite good fun and again didn't require Frank to shoot anyone in the face. Now that you mention it, the art does have a Who Framed Roger Rabbit style to it, good call.
Batmanuel

Reaper:

The Yanks didn't want too be involved in the ww2, they just sat back, until the japs forced their hand, if that had not happened then the still would have held back, why? because whoever won they would have done business with them, ( see the outcome of the vietnam war ) and as for personal and hardware, at what cost? to suggest that you undermine the efforts of the brave non American soldiers who fought and died , we really didn't need them and now were in America's pocket because of it.

so please dont do a Tony Blair on me (i am being polite here)

on a brighter note, i am enjoying Punisher War Journal Smile
Xeall

Well i'm glad that story is over with. Someone really didn't know the punisher. Walk in get your ass whipped after planning the attack....its bloody frank castle, his plans are not that strait foward. Shot everyone only to throw away your gun for an epic fight?????? Frank doesn't do epic, he does dead. However i am seriously looking forward to winter soldier versus punisher.
