Bourne Ultimatum

it was said in scream 3 that the third film in a trilogy can rewrite everything from the previous films and the bourne ultimatum is the third in a series of films following Jason Bourne. In a welcome change to a summer of disappointing trilogy sequels (Spiderman three, Shrek 3) the Bourne Ultimatum actually manages to round off a series in great fashion.
Following on very closely from the Bourne Supremacy this film takes place six weeks later and once again finds Jason Bourne being hunted by the CIA. One thing that has always been impressive about the Bourne series is that they are fairly realistic and the characters well written and interesting. The sharp contrast to the Bond series for instance, is the fact that everything that Jason Bourne uses can be bought by anyone in your local high street which helps to ground the film in our reality. A big difference between this film and its predecessors is that you find out a lot about the Treadstone projects history and Jason Bournes history. And this is where the reference to Scream 3 comes in, this film does significantly change some of the previous facts and introduces new characters who seem to have been in control of the Treadstone project from the beginning.
While in horror films this can be an annoying issue, it is pulled off in this extremely well and feels like natural story progression, which I'm sure you will agree is very important to keeping audiences attention.

Following the death of Bournes girlfiriend Marie, films have become darker and grittier and this is extremely evident in the dull, gray palette used in Ultimatum. It helps illustrate Bournes loneliness and remoteness from everyone around with whom he has to fight against to survive. And fighting is something that the Bourne series has always been very good at displaying, in The Bourne Identity I was impressed by the choreography used and the difference in style to the then standard Matrix style martial arts scene. This film doesn't let you down, fights are still extemely well choreographed, fast paced and interesting. Matt Damon is exceptionally apt in the role and in the physical nature required by his character, his reactions are sharp and his acting beyond reproach. However one major issue is the speed of the cuts during the scenes, it has become a tendency in Hollywood now to use faster cuts in violent scenes to get a lower age rating and make the scene feel more fast paced. This isn't bad in concept but does make following these scenes extreme difficult and at times just plain confusing, there were a few times during this film where I had no idea what was going on.

This is a minor gripe and just about the only one I can aim at the film. So far this is one of the best films of the year and if you haven't seen the previous films then rent them or buy them and then go see this.

My only problem with the bourne films are that i have read the books. I suggest anyone that thought the films were good to do the same. Trust me on this. Aside from that i actually think as stand alone films they are pretty good.

I've read the first half of Identity and keep meaning to finish it but they are completely different. The director of Identity actually told the scriptwriter not to read the book first and to write the script from the synopsis that Liman gave him.

I saw this last night and thought that it rocked. I've only seen the previous two movies once, so I didn't pick on a changing of the previously established continuity.

I particularly liked the way that the throwaway scene from the end of the second movie actually became a key sequenece from this movie.
Reaper

That initially had me a bit worried as I thought they might just disregard the whole scene.

Bourne: He's never been this angry. Mad

Do they ever call him Delta in this one? For those that don't know bourne as delta, read punisher max born and you pretty much got it. Now that was angry.
