Best of 2006: MovieAfter reading your comments elsewhere, I've moved and expanded the Movies award to cover all movies released in 2006.
Happy Nominating! ...and it should be interesting trying to whittle this one down to a Top 5 too...
Hey Guys!
It's that time of year again to look back and reflect upon the very best (and worst) that the comic industry had to offer.
This category is for:
Best Movie
Clearly, any movie that released at the cinema during the calendar year of 2006 is eligible for this category.
Please post your Top Three nominations for Best Movie (please number them) and, come Monday 18th December, I will close the thread.
Then the fun begins!
I'll be selecting a Top 5 from your nominations; basically, your first nomination will get 3 points from me, your second 2 points and your third only the 1 point.
The Top 5 you selected will then be placed in a poll. You then vote for your favourite from the five selected and the winning option will be officially declared the Whatever Comics Movie of 2006 over the Christmas period!
Naturally, please feel free to offer your opinions on the nominations and ridicule the other posters for selecting something that is likely crap (ie. CapO has creative freedom to say and do what he wants... and no one is gonna stop him so we may as well encourage him!)
I've been thinking... this is gonna be very hard, isn't it...? We're all likely to pick something different here... and no poll will then follow. Anyone got any ideas or do we all like the same kinda film...?

ok here is my list:
1- Underworld: Evolution - Kate Beckinsale(enough reason alone) and an absolutly excellent medieval opening part to the movie. refresh your memory
2 - You, Me and Dupree - what can i say the fiance made me! but it actually turned out to be a pretty funny film and a whole lot better then the trailer made it out. (and the fact that my best man is so like Dupree that it is actually quite scary.)
3 - Children of Men - really struggling to find a third choice, mildly good film but made a change from the classic Hollywood flick.
ok i know you said

but face it most of the films released in 2006 where pretty poor (apart from Underworld Evolutions) so here is my admended list of films released in 2006 including films that went straight to DVD.
1. Howl's Moving Castle - 2005 film but sure it didn't have a cinematic release in the UK so it has to count as straight to DVD in 2006.
2. Underworld: Evolution
3. Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence - not great (ok damn confusing in parts, unlike the more light heated series) but good to see how they advance the story especially with the absence of the main charecter. Whole films seems to be on youtube

Had a limited release back in 2005, might even have been 04 but I can't be sure. It seems like a long time since I saw it and that was at Cinema 3, who tend to get movies a while after their release.

I don't mean to bitch at your opinions on films (I apologise in advance) but Underworld Evolution?!?!?! Christ why not add X-Men 3 as your second choice

Figured that choice would need some defending:
I guess it boils down to what you want from a movie, for me since i spend most of days discussing/writing about theology and philosophy, with all its metapysical and sociologica implications (and Batmanuel said us Canterbury lot where not as smart as the Maidstone customer base ) For me a good movie is a "good looking, no brainer." ie: something i can just turn off too and simply enjoy.
In this regard Underworld achieves this admirably, and as it never pretends to be anything else - it has in effect achieved all it ever set out to be - and as such gets my best movie award.
The only really intelligent and though provoking stuff i have seen would be Ghost in the Shell (stand alone complex, over the films every time.)
Everything else tends to be predictable, or done/discussed a thousand times over.
So i wouldn't put X-men 3 in my top 3, because its "intelligent basis" is centred around the whole "magneto vs Xavier ideology" Which never really gets enough "depth."

I'm sure you also enjoyed the uber-hot totty in both films too!

might change my opinion come friday though since i'm going to watch Eragon
which don't look too bad - Seems to be an increased interest in making fantasy films recently (must be the LOTR effect.)

You didn't see Film 2006 this week then? It's been a while since I saw Jonathan Ross THAT negative about a kids film.

Oh well, the tickets are booked, so will just have to watch it and find out. (and let you know whether to avoid it or not.) I haven't read the source material but one of my friends has, umm wonder if that will change our perception of the film (umm, constantine...)

I'm hoping it will be good as the book (i'm told) was fairly enjoyable though not as good as Magician by Raymond E Feist.
Should be going to see this at the weekend, that or Happy Feet.

MY choice would be Broken Saints. A 'graphic novel' movie that is well worth checking out.
