Best and worst Film everBeing a big film fan people often ask me which is my favorite film of all time
Very hard to name one so here are 5 of my top films no order
1. The Abyss special edition
2. The principal
3. Shawshank redemption
4. V for vendetta
5. The Rock
And my worst films
1.rocky and bullwinkle
2.Batman and robin
3.Boxing Helena
4.Battlefield Earth
5.Ultraviolet
Any better or worse films lets see if we can get a list.
|
Web of Fear
|
In no particular order my favourites are:
1. Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Yes, I know counting it as one is cheating);
2. Aliens;
3. The Shawshank Redemption;
4. The Usual Suspects;
5. Leon;
6. Withnail & I.
I don't really have a list of worst films, as if it's bad, I try and forget about it, but Underworld is pretty much one of the worst films I've seen in my life.
|
Robin The Boy Wonder
|
My order tends to change (usually after I watch them) but this has to be my Top 5:
1. Raiders of the Lost Ark
2. Lord of the Rings (I'm cheating but, put together, it's that good. If you ask me which of the three is best, I'd go with Fellowship of the Ring 10 times out of 10)
3. Saving Private Ryan
4. Walk The Line
5. United 93
After that, I'd go with any of the following:
The Shawshank Redemption
Liar Liar
Jurassic Park
The Incredibles
Ali
Transformers: The Movie
As for the worst... well... I have seen some serious shite in my time... but I'd probably reserve first place for...
Star Trek: The Motion Picture
As for the other seriously bad movies, I usually know they're bad before I contemplate watching them. So I don't. Batman & Robin? Battlefield: Earth? Rocky & Bullwinkle (Torchwood... WHY?!?)?

top five in no particular order:
Conan the Barbarian (c'mon where are the rest of the 80's arnie flicks in peoples lists!)
Patch Adams
Equilibrium (and i don't care what other people think about that choice - it WAS a VERY well made film.)
LOTR trilogy.
V for Vendetta. (which i just watched yesterday and as such replaces Leon, for the top 5.)
- though their are so many others i would mention, for example in kung fu - "fist of legend" by Jet Li is a must (as well as Enter the Dragon as already mentioned.) also feel inclined to mention "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." "Howls moving castle," and "The Crow."
Worst Five:
Blair Witch Project.
Jurassic Park
Eragon
Red Sonja
Conan the Destroyer

The best movie ever made bar none is Moulin Rouge. Stop laughing at the back. It is though - FACT.
There are other great, great films though, again, in no particular order:
Titanic
Donnie Darko
Some Like It Hot
Blues Brothers
Big Fish
Taxi Driver
The Prestige
Sin City
The Royal Tenenbaums
Rocky
I know I'm forgetting some great stuff. I'll be back after work when I've had time to look at my shelves!
As for the bad, it's easy. There are only a few films that I truly, truly hated. They are:
Lost In Space
Deep Impact
Ali
What Dreams May Come
The Holiday
|
Reaper
|
How can you say Ali was a bad film?!
|
Black Phoenix
|
in the same way he says moulin rouge/titanic was a good film.
|
Reaper
|
I agree they were good films (Though not in top 10 territory for me).

I just hated Ali so much - if I wanted to watch Malcolm X, I'd have put on Malcolm X.
Oh yeah - just remembered. MIAMI VICE. Damn that sucked ass so much.
|
The Rascal King
|
How can you say Titanic was a good film?!
And that I forgot the Blues Brothers, and Sin City, was nothing short of a travisty.

Titanic isn't that bad! Consider the positives:
Kate Winslet
Kate Winslet posing nude
Kate Winslet romping
Kate Winslet surviving certain death
Kate Winslet's beautiful, gorgeous, longing-to-suck lips
Kate Winslet's gorgeous wardrobe - made for disrobing!
Oh... and, let's not forget:
Leonardo DiCaprio died!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
|

What can I say - I'm a sucker for melodramatic films. I just let myself go at the cinema, and let the film take me where it wants to go. titanic was massively impressive, beautifully shot, well acted, and - yes - kate winslet is hot as hell in it
blues brothers is genius and so is sin city. frank miller was happy with it, so if it's good enough for him.....
|
Reaper
|
I like all three of those films. Sin City was very well done. Titanic has it's flaws yes but as Waffle said it is beautifully shot, well acted and gives a fairly good depiction of a cruise liner sinking. Cameron deserved his award for best director.
I don't understand why you don't like the Blues Brothers, rascal king. Really don't.

Here are some of my favourite films,
I have not included any comic book films here as this is a non comic film section
The more I thought about it the more films popped up in my mind, but I have managed to shortlist them down:
Comedy:
Life of Brian
Time bandits
Sci-fi:
Alien
2001 A Space Odyssey
Horror:
The Exorcist
Sixth Sense
British:
Dead Mans Shoes
The Boondock Saints
Tarrantino:
Kill Bill 1
Pulp Fiction
Others:
Easy Rider
A Clockwork Orange
That’s all for now, I have tried to pick films across the board, as well as films which have had a profound affect on me.
|
Black Phoenix
|
Time bandits had a profound effect upon you a story about a group of midgets running around causing trouble.....
|
The Rascal King
|
Reaper, did I miss something? I freekin' LOVE the Blues Brothers!
Does this look like someone who doesn't like the Jake and Elwood?
I was just saying its horrible that I forgot to mention it as a favourite.

The sentence reads like you think both the Blues Brothers and Sin City are travestys.

best: matrix or seven
Worst: Miami vice (only watch 20 minutes) or mortal kombat (the second one)

Matrix best film ever?! You're nuts
I didn't think Miami Vice was that bad, it was slow yeah but the acting and direction were good. However its no way near as good as Heat
|
Xeall
|
Saw the matrix on my 16th birthday not knowing anything about it, not even who was in it. Can't beat that for the awe you feel in that situation.
|
Reaper
|
Its a good film, did an essay on it in my 3rd year. Have you seen Existenz? I thought that was a slightly better stab at not knowing if you're in reality or not
|
Xeall

don't think i have but the name rings a bell so i might have, i'll look for a copy and let you know

Every once in a while a film comes out that breaks new ground, and i believe that the Matrix was one of these films, and copycats will follow the lead.
and, Lord of the Flies, haven't seen it but thats a great title.

i'm surprised no-one's mentioned stuff like versus or ichi the killer...
evil dead or bubba hotep...
elephant (okay, it sucked, but it was beautiful) or... nah, that'll do for an off-the-top-of-the-head list.
stranger the fiction was pretty good too, as one of the few 'new' films i've seen in the last year...
|
Reaper
|
Stranger than fiction was surprisingly good, really novel idea (geddit?). And quite funny to boot.
|
CatFang
|
Best films that I can think off the top of my head now:
Alien
Paperhouse
Time Bandits
Brazil
Tideland
Straw Dogs
A History of Violence
Portrait of Blood
Six String Samurai
The Devils
Sword of Doom
Wild At Heart
Pan's Labyrinth
and for nostalgia's sake, Lost Boys
Worst films is a bit more tricky as CyNic is a big MST3K fan so we've seen some real stinkers.
Also I have a bit of a weakness for sci-fi and horror that's so bad it's good.
Having said that....
V for Vendetta - OMFG
Probably anything with Hugh Grant in it. Romantic comedies, EWWW.

Its a good film made better that its a true story. I love it when the under dog takes on the establishment. Also Larry Flint was in it as a Judge, he just takes the urine.

At last i find someone who agrees that CT is not all its cracked up to be, thank you my friend for restoring my faith in human taste
Couple of my favorites have to be
Blade Runner and John Carpenter's The Thing,
Both of which were extraordinary films
has it really been a year?

Have to now cast a vote for The Spirit as the Worst Film Ever!

CatFang:

Wow!
I have heard some negative comments on this film, and by and large have ignored them, much as i did with V, preferring to make up my own mind, but when someone like Cat says no.... i think to myself, how the hell did Frank get it so wrong, maybe he needs the backing of a real film maker? maybe he is just a comic book artist/writer after all, with grand designs above his station.
so, back to the drawing board Frank... Literary
|
Reaper
|
The Spirit wasn't terrible (haven't read the comic btw) but it was fucking bizarre. Probably not a film I'd buy or be worried about watching again.... except for Scarlett Johannson and Eva Mendes.
|
CatFang
|
I think possibly Frank Miller got a bit carried away by Robert Rodriguez's courtesy in putting him down as a do-director.
Perhaps he didn't realise the experience under Rodriguez's belt that made the job look easy.
You can see the way the film looks more like a live story board than a film.
Bit more experience, maybe?
Writing was awful though.
I'm not a big fan of the comic per se, but why adapt Eisner and then remove any kind of Eisneriean feel. Looks like a massive ego trip funded by a film industry desperate to jump on the comic book bandwagon to me.

Strange, i was having a similar conversation with my Debs the other day, but i have not seen it yet so i cant comment.
one example i might bring up here is that in 1973 Lou Reed released Berlin, it was a commercial disaster. 36 years later, it is heralded as a masterpiece. but like i said, i cant comment because i haven't seen it yet.

Similar journey with Blade Runner, panned by everyone in 1982 but is now one of the top films of all time.
|
Batmanuel
|
By Jove your right! I fell in love with Bladerunner when it first came out, and i still think that its one of the finest Sci-Fi movies ever, if not the finest.
|
CatFang
|
Me, too.
From the first time I saw Bladerunner I thought it was amazing.
It is sometimes the case that a film is in some way misunderstood or ahead of its time and is critically reassessed in later years.
In this case I will wait for the future to surprise me.
Even if everyone else in the world decides to love it though I will still maintain the Spirit is awful.
