Beowulfsailing the longboat and being in the swimming race is worth going into town and getting this title, better then i had thought it was going to be.

I keep being tempted by this when I go in the shop, but can't decide. Same as with Conan.
Am I right in thinking the action takes place in the "missing years"?
What format did you play it on, and can you give any examples of other games it is similar to?

i have both conan and beowulf on the xbox 360, both games are very much in the same mold, with that said you get to control a warband of thanes in beowulf, conan is platform fun with very lush graphics, where as beowulf is a deeper experince, conan has a good plot, but more like the marvel storyline then howard where as beowulf has the storyline of the movie with nice, well thought out filler elements, but both are good for hack and slash fun. conan has a feel of a golden axe game in a way. sorry this post does not have a clear winner but i would say get one, dont get both.

I say never buy a film licence tie in to computer games. Apart from spider-man 2 and technically the punisher. Thats it.......oh batman on the NES

Why is it so impossible to make a good licensed game? You would think it would be easy.
One of the most god-awful has to be the Matrix game. We chucked it out without finishing it.
Lego Star Wars was good though

lego star wars is indeed one i missed and i look foward to both lego batman and lego indiana jones.
The reason film tie-ins suck is because of the lack of develpoment time. The only make it for about a year at max, so they can't pull off the quality needed. Also it has to appeal to everyone, which is a hard demographic to reach when you have to take noobs and pro gamers into account

one) MxO, was an enjoyable game... and quite brought the idea of the matrix to a game... pittry it was so repetative...
two) connan=god of war 2 on a more expencive console
three) beowulf the film, is terrible.. i was taken to it.. and spent the whole time just sitting there asking WTF am i doing sitting here watching this??
that alone is enough to put me off a game made from a movie made from a if were honest rather slow ledgend/story/tale/folklore/whatever you want to call it..
so on reflection buy connan.. pretend your arnie.. collect orbs?

Welcome to the forum (not been here that long myself)

Well, I already have the more expensive console , with God of War 2 on it (!) which I love (apart from the annoying grapple puzzles) so that sounds hopeful

I might just. Got GoW, Kane and Lynch UT3 God Of War 2 (among others!) to finish off first though. RSI's gonna be a killer by the time I get back to work next week.

You didn;t like it? Why not? Actually there is a discussion about it in the movies section if you haven't seen it.
I love the poem, so I was prepared to be disappointed, but I thought it was pretty good as an adaptation.
Still torn about the beowulf game though - norsefire1 seems to quite like it and I seem to agree with most things he (?) says about all kinds of other stuff, though. Games of films are almost universally awful. Perhaps I will see a really good deal on it and pick it up for £15 or something?
tricky, tricky

no i didnt like it at all...
it tried so hard to be an adult film and failed somehow :/
reducing its self to pretty rendered-ness... which makes me think little of the game..
but if you do like that kind of thing and do enjoy Nordic fokelore then it might be the game for you ...
BUT if you want a good game for your 360/ps3 ASSASSINS CREED!!!!!! or masseffect if you like your sci fi (Y)

me thinks that rappletek kind of missed the point about the whole beowulf thing. i might say that it with the beowulf film it was the earliest known work in english told by the must up to date tec , i could also say that beowulfs three act stucture informs every bit storytelling after, i might just drop in that such myth informs and enriches ones own sense of identity though the fact that it is englands only national epic and in that is important as not only a bit of history but also as a work of art in its self, but i wont.
assassins creed is indeed very good if not a little like the tenchu games which in turn kind of reduces its self into its own little pretty rendered-ness
beowulf is fun, just a fun hack and slash game, its nice beating trolls up in mead halls, its fun fighting frisians with your warband, just fun. recall rappletek when people used to sit around the warm glow of a t.v and snes/megadrive, people used to play for fun in them days, right nice it were to
in regards to catfangs question i feel that in retrospect that as you post, that maybe getting beowulf (and thinking about it conan as well) may be worth getting when they come down in price or are in a deal.
to answer catfangs question
i am indeed a he
i belive being told a long time ago, buy some kind emblematic authorty that biteing ones nails is "bad" for you, i never quite did work out why it was "bad" maybe the thought police would come get an offender in the night

what?
Point being i'm all for hack and slash but if i want that i'll play devil may cry or Ninja gaiden. Hack and slash with depth, figure that one out. Or go on the 360 live arcade and download streets of rage 2........oh the memories

no not at all i understand its significance in that respect... however that doesnt make it good.. or entertaining to watch..
and again assassins creed, yes tenchu similarities without the terrible mapping.. and set in fully exploreable pretty rendered-ness, which is more the key to its attractive-ness in that respect..
it also encorporates plenty of hack and slash for a good mame-athon and plenty of other styles of play for everyone.. with one of the best and engrosing storylines for any action game in current release

Right assasin creed is better than beowolf, however (breath in) it is repetative and not fully explorable until the game decides you can remember that bit. A bordering on simple plot is how i would explain it, with a complete lack of ending. Pretty as hell, best animation i have ever seen, i recommened it to anyone who wants a good game but it is not sent from above glising with all the colours of the rainbow.
Oh and the next guy to insult tenchu (original 2) gets a swift ninja death to the face!

Seconded.
I wondered for a minute over the "only national epic" thing - but I guess you are classifying the Arthurian stuff as "British" rather than "English"?
I read it again last night actually, but I guess it is either the kind of thing you like or you don't. The film is probably a good intro for people who don't know the story.
CyNic (I am supposed to refere to him by his forum name, right?) has assassin's creed that so I am watching him play it. I do quite like the attempt to bring the control interface into the story and "break the wall" there.

Ah, the old days.....
Yes, I think I will try to get them when they fall in price for a quick play about and see how they go.

Actually I think it is because a scary man comes in the night and cuts off your fingers with a giant pair of scissors.
