oh dear oh dear oh dear, what a bloody mistake, me and Debs sat though this in sheer disbelief at how bad it was, then Debe hit the nail on the head when she said "its like a spoof of the real thing" with that i jumped up and replied "that it, thats exactly it, its a bloody parody"
The Rascal King
I liked it.

Now see, i don't believe you, you are winding me up, and i know for a fact that you have a certain amount of taste in entertainment, the stupid Bowie lookalike, the who do we call... camera pans to Gene Hunts door, the really stupid WPC, and the last straw of both me and Debs was the boat bit with the the musketeers in it. Top Gear this was not.
do yourself a favor go back and watch an episode of Life on Mars, any episode, just to remind you what it was that you liked, then watch the episode of Ashes To Ashes again, and if you still like it i know someone who will do a lobotomy for you on the cheap
The Rascal King
I know it was cheesy, but I did think it was quite good.
Yes, the bit of them in the boat was ... gratuitous, but it was fun.
Whats interesting is the change. From the hard nuts of the 70's, doing what they felt like, to dealing with lawers and slime balls of the 80's, drug guys with power. The Brixton riots being mentioned, the dissafection with the police.
That and funny 80's clothes and the wonder at some of their gizmos. "Its like tomorrows world". Heh, I remember Tomorrows World. I still want my Jet pack.
But no, I liked it.
Web of Fear
I watched the start and didn't think that much of it. Gave up halfway through.

It was OK. Nothing great, but not that bad either.
The biggest problem that Ashes to Ashes will have is that it will only ever live in the shadow of its predecessor, Life on Mars.
Life on Mars showed true originality with its premise. A modern-day Police Officer trapped in the past (1973). As a series, it ran the gamut of several different genres, including cop show, period, 1970's cop show, sci-fi, romance, drama... Few programmes can attain such a triumph, let alone even aspire to it.
In short, Life on Mars was that good that it's likely Ashes to Ashes will never live up to it.
Let's also bear in mind this is only the first episode. The premise has to be established, as must the central character. The audience should already know who Gene Hunt is so they can turn immediately to showing the character off (as they did, particularly the speedboat sequence) rather than building the character over the coming weeks.
Ashes to Ashes does have potential. A different decade and different surroundings offers a completely different historical background for it to work to. It will be interesting to see if the series will remain tongue firmly in cheek over the coming weeks or offer something different to Life on Mars...

i am surprised no one has commented on the second episode, which was a lot lot lot better than the first one, and for once the music reference was bang on, a hats off to however researched this for the show, the Pop Group song which featured in the show was spot on, the bands single "we are all prostitutes" was like a breath of fresh air, i had almost forgotten how rebellious the 80's was, once you shoveled your way past all the yuppies and enterprising dipsticks, there was still a real underground youth movement, with raw uneasy listening music, the Pop Group were one such band, i am not sure on the Audi though, now the car is an eighties legend, the problem i have is that the car had not become a legend that early in the eighties, and i am sure as hell right in thinking that the old bill wouldn't have had one in bright red, no, it should have been a BMW, thats what all the yuppies, tossers, and bill were driving in the eighties, it was the car to aspire to in Thatchers Britain, and also the period where BMW's got the really bad image, you know, the car chosen by Twats.
Still if the show keeps at least this level of credibility i might just carry on watching it, now all they need to do is get rid of that re"dick"ulous Bowie lookalike, replace it with Johnny Lydon of Pil and job done

I watched the second episode and agree it was way better than the first.
Let's not forget the first episode of Life on Mars was good, and with potential; but by no means was it the series it ultimately became.

I gave up after the first episode, despite the shortness of Keeley whatshername's skirt.
I watched the second episode and agree it was way better than the first.
well it really couldn't have got much worse, and poor old Web of, he missed the second episode, and you watch, he will tune into the third and it will be crap, and he will think Bollocks, another hour of my life wasted with no chance of ever getting it back, DAMM THE FORUM

Ashes to Ashes has shaped out to be a quite a lively series, I think.
There's a wonderful dynamic between Alex Drake and Gene Hunt, one that's filled to the brim with sexual tensions. I like how the dynamic between Gene and his DI is dramatically different this time around.
The stories are fun too!
It's not Life on Mars but it's also not trying to be either (how unlike the first episode).
And... Keeley Hawes really isn't that bad-looking, is she? Easy on the eye, perhaps?

Are you Blind, shes a e-fing DOG... oooWWWWW, saw her on Jonathan Ross, and she really is a dumb individual, even old Rossy got away with asking her for a blow job
But it has to be said that the show has improved since the first episode, and has at time been bordering on quite good.
