A Very Special AnnouncementWHATEVER COMICS:
Specialists in American Comics and Collectables
IS NOW AT, 9 ST PETERS STREET, CANTERBURY, CT1 2AT.
About Us
Canterbury’s Longest Established Comics and Collectables Retailer
has Moved. It’s the end of an Era, and the beginning of a new one.
Whatever Comics first opened for business in as a small back issue only business, in the Harvey Centre, an "indoor market" in Canterbury, Kent. This was a full time six days a week business, not just a part time hobby, we were determined to make it work because we believed in it.
It quickly became clear that our customers wanted access to new imports as well as older classic comics and we started importing new titles shortly after.
We moved to Burgate Lane in 1992, which was to be our home until the 14th July 2008, and this year Whatever Comics celebrates 20 Years in the business.
We have always prided ourselves in being a friendly community with customers just popping in for a chat.
For a period of about 10 years we also had a second shop in Maidstone, We are still in contact with many of our Maidstone customer’s, towards the end of 2006 we also launched the current incarnation of our Website. Combining all the features you would normally expect from an online business including sections for news, reviews and previews as well as a thriving forum community that actively welcomes new members.
Welcome to all of our customers old and new alike. Thank you for the support over the last 20 years, but above all, thank you for your friendship.
Feel free to browse around both our virtual www.whatevercomics.com and "bricks and mortar" shops and to ask any of us any questions that you might have. Whatevercomics@hotmail.co.uk.
Best Wishes Manny & Debe

A VERY VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO TO THOSE WHO CHIPPED IN TO HELP
Greg, Shaun, Tris, take a bow. (Leon My Son and Tris get a special thanks) above and beyond the call of duty guys, thank you so very very much, especially Leon who erected all the Slat-wall, no easy task it has to be said, having had some experience with this in the past.
we are planning some special events to mark our twentieth anniversary.
WATCH THIS SPACE
and how Bizzare is this, when i opened my Business twenty years ago, our very first customer in The Harvey Centre was Rob Appleby.
and who should walk through the door as our first Customer in the new premises?? only Rob Bloody Appleby
We talked about those times, and we talked about the very first comic he brought, we both remembered it.
now if that isn't a good omen i dont know what is
if there are a few typos, or errors in this post please excuse it as i am absolutely knacked
I will be back soon as Bats to see what the Boy Wonders been up to

eh?
I had absolutely no idea you guys were moving!

So by now all of you should be aware of the new shop, and those of you who are not, well i have added a map at the old premises just for you
So hows it going? very well i feel, its amazing how many people have said they are glad we moved because the old shop was a bit of a trek.
And we are also surprised at just how much new traffic we are getting.
there are a couple of disappointments though, one being the amount of people who didn't realise that there was another comic shop in Canterbury until we moved, the reason being that they had been told that there was NO OTHER COMIC SHOP IN THE AREA by what they thought to be a reliable source.
That wouldn't and couldn't have happened if we still had a Comics International.
but our existence cannot be denied now can it.
One guy even came in shook my hand and thanked me for opening a new comic shop, as he felt the service he had been getting sucked, his words not mine, and followed on to say "i try and bring my kids up with manners, only to introduce them to the rudest man in the world, who resides not a million miles form here". again his words not mine.
When i told him i had been trading for twenty years he seemed shocked, no, he said, please tell me you are pulling my leg, sorry i replied, its true.
the following words were expleated even by my standards, he then composed himself, apologised and said, i am not usually like that, i am sure i am going to get to know and like this fellow.
Strangely enough i have even been asked by someone if there was anywhere else a person could buy a certain book that i was out of stock on, i replied, well there is another shop similar but very different to this one just around the corner, preferring to send customers to official outlets rather than jumped up booksellers who are just out to rape and pillage our industry, the guy replied, yes i know, but is there anywhere else?
so here we are at the end of our second successful week trading from our new premises.
so whats next, well you will have to wait and see, however the one thing i will not forget are the core essence that has helped shape Whatever Comics, and that is my hardcore customer base that has been with me all along, some of you since day one, which makes you all twenty years older too you guys and gals will always get priority.
and for the future, well i am going to try and continue to do what i have been doing since way back then, and sell you a product that i love and wholeheartedly believe in.
and to be honest enough to tell you when its shit too
and while i am at it, a special thanks to our Waffle for the news coverage, wow, it really helped get the word out

Wow!
It sounds like somewhere nearby is not going to get nominated for Best Comic Shop in The World!

Yeah - thanks for that - but it's *only* been 16 for me, so I guess I am still a spring chicken.
Long Live Whatever Comics!

Hardcore??? I just spent 50 bloody quid on two weeks worth of comics, you have made this more expensive than my ciggerette addiction. Im frikkin addicted to your shop, i think that makes me hardcore sir. Damn civil war and its temptations of other comics. But seriously the place looks awesome and im glad things are going well. On the plus side if i still had my old job it would have made coming down for a cheeky visit nigh on impossible.
Whatever Comics Assemble with the New Whatever comic mansion, or is it a tower now....or maybe............

I'm pleased it's all going well and that you're developing a new customer base too, on top of the 'hardcore' set.
See you in a couple weeks for a proper chat (the last time you had a packed shop with tons of French wan... er, tos... er, cun... um, oh, people).

Yes we did, unfortnately this only happened during the time you were in store, where we were invaded by a pack of italians, we didnt have the checkpoint system installed at that point so it was hard to relax. getting a handle on it now, so hopefully next time you visit i will be able to talk a bit more, mind you, i have had a lot of Spanish in, and they unlike the French and Italians, they like a bit of Sci-Fi so its been easy to sell them stuff, every little bit helps
