Used to be but I just find it too patchey. Dred's always good but a lot of the stories take themselves to seriously or don't offer enough jumping on points. I feel bad because I kinda feel like I should support 2000AD, but I just don't have the cash to buy a weekly that I'm not that interested in.

Ive been thinking of trying it out, but I dont know if I would be able to jump into it, as Kingmouse said.

You can kinda jump onto it, but most of the writers seem to rely on you reading the first episode of a particular arc in order to get the rest which means you have to work through several issues before you've filtered out the stories you don't understand, that or start by buying a stack of back issues. Even then most of the stories don't match up to Dread.
Started on Countdown but despite being the resident 52 fanboy, it just didn't do it for me. I'm all for continuity but when I'm paying 2 quid per week for what is basically an advert for DC's other sub-par titles then I'm out. The said it was going to be the backbone of DC, but at the moment it's the main reason the wheels seem to have fallen off the company. JSA and JLA are my only DC titles left now and even they've been damaged by the pointless number of crossovers.

I would love to read 2000ad but as been said elsewhere, while some titles within its pages are generally excellent (Dredd, Slaine, ABC Warriors, Sinister Dexter) to much of it is not good enough to justify a weekly spend.
That and they dont fit in to my comic boxes!!!

Hey Reaper,
I'm a massive 2000AD fan. The weekly prog is on a high at the moment with some quality art and stories.
Dredd continues on a high at the moment, is old stonet face startuing to mellow in his old age?
ABC Warriors, stupendous art from the Langley droid, one of Pt Milss better stories for the characters this time, chock full of ideas.
Caballistics Inc, returns in it's final arc. Superb script from Goron Rennie and nice atmospheric art from Dom Reardon.
Button Man; Wagner continues the story in it's 4th outing. Arthur Ransom is replaced by Frazer Irving on art duties. I have to say although I love Irvings stuff, check out the Storming Heaven graphic novel, I miss Ransoms realisum.
Stone Island 2 from Scarlet Traces Ian Edginton and painted art supplied by Simon Davis.
Well worth picking up weith more creativity than many an American book.

Well, welcome captainskank - though it must be said there does seem to be to many captains around here hmmmm, time for a promotion maybe??
Good to see a proper 2000AD fans has found their way to the boards. I am sure that a lot of us would appreciate story recomendation in either trade paper back form or the Progs the story appears in.
And how about some character history for our new whos, who site...???

I just Picked up my first issues of Judge Dredd and 2000AD [im really bored so thought, sod it give them a go].
Got to day I really enjoy it. The art in ABC and Button Man are awesome [possible better than alot of the rest of the stuff I read] I recognise Irving from Iron Man. And the stories seem at a good pace, I was worried you wouldnt get enough per issue, but it seems to work well enough.
Reading Dredd I really enjoy the fact that there are full nrew articles between the stories, I liked the comandos article getting me really hiped for monday evening. And there was a 6 page story on Garth Ennis, love it.
I like the way there is so much to read, i really feel there is value for money here. But comparing this with any american weekly is stupid, theyre just too different. I would seriously suggest it, im looking forwards to the next issue.

I thought that was funny but I didnt know if that was an out and out joke or an actuall character I didnt know about. One thing I did find with ABC was the SPOILERfact that those characters dies meant nothing to me as I have no Idea who they were.

ive read 2000 ad on and off for years,i feel same about the weekly mag as most have already said on the forum but for me the greatness of 2000 ad lies in slaine, sinister dexter and of course dredd. my advice is pick up a few weekly issues and then see what you like and get the graphic novels of a story arc or writer or artist or protaganist that you like. you cant go far wrong with starting off with slaine book of invasions, and the dredd batman crossovers to get a feel for what its all about.

I've just read my 3rd issue really like all of the stories, I think they all seem to have strong characters and stories and think they all have great artwork [well maby Dredd's neaded a bit more]. Love It.

Just picked up issues 1551, 1552 so now I go from 1551 to current, and it has sereved to fill in holes in most of the stories, but now im even more confused about the ABC Warriors. Could someone explain to me who is on the team and what is going on, has it nearly all been flashbacks so far???

Apart from Slaine (which is essential reading for any teenage girl) I had not read 2000AD when I was a kid apart from odd stories.
I started picking up the collections really for the artwork - I wanted to have a look at classic black and white art that was intended to be black and white, rather than inked pencils intended to take colour.
Now though, I'm really hooked. Anything I spot by Pat Mills I'll snap up right away.
I think the collections are the best way to pick up on the back stories you need to make sense of everything - ABC Warriors particularly as the timeline is so jumpy.
As with anything else so long running and with such a high volume output need(and especially with stories that have had multiple creative teams) the quality varies massively.
I was so disappointed in the first Rogue Trooper collection I can't yet bring myself to read any others - even though I have been told they improve.
Here is my Must Have List to get you started:
1) The ballad of Halo Jones
2) Nemesis the Warlock (volumes one and two collected so far)
3) Strontium Dog (volumes 1 - 3 collected so far)
4) Slaine (well, anything but Time Killer which doesn't fit with the rest of it and would give you a bad impression). The Horned God is the classic.
5)ABC Warriors (the meknificent 7, and blackhole will give you the timeline - although you will need to have read Nemesis as well to get all the pieces as they cross over - Kronicles of Khaos is great but is more of an experiment).
6) Obviously the collected Judge Dredds - but do as I was advised and read 3 onwards and then go back and pick up the early back story from 1 and 2. This is just because the early ones seem really quite primitive in terms of comic story telling now and may put you off the later ones as the target audience was much younger then.
7) Savage: Taking Liberties. This is the sequel to Invasion - but much better. Partly due to the same reasons mentioned above about when it was first printed, and partly because only the first few episodes are scripted by Pat Mills before it passes to Gerry Finlay-Day. Although in the same way it's worth a read for the back story.
The art - particularly by Kev O'Nell (ABC Warriors, Nemesis), Bryan Talbot (Nemesis) and Simon Bisley (ABC Warriors and Slaine) and Brian Bolland (Judge Dredd) is so beautiful it will make you cry.
If you've got any cash left after that lot read Thrill Power Overload - it's fascinating and really puts a different perspective on many of the stories.
What with Christmas coming up and all it would be a good time to make a list
