Thymus Gland

The thymus can be found in the upper half of the thorax just behind the sternum, it is below the thyroid gland. It is made up of two lobes which are both divided by a septum or wall. Both of the lobules are made up of an outer cortex and the centre which is called the medulla. The body’s lymphocytes will divide within the cortex and as T-cells mature they move or migrate to the medulla and then enter one of the blood vessels that are located within that are.

There are other cells within the thymus that produce hormones called thymosins. These hormones will aid in the maturation on the lymphocytes that remain in the gland as well as the growth and activity throughout the rest of the body.

The Thymus is part of the immune system and plays a critical role in young animals as the immune system develops and strengthens. As the animal gets older the thymus will shrink being replaced by connective tissues and fat though it will not disappear completely.

The thymus is a small pink grey organ located in the upper thorax.

Adrenal Gland

The Adrenal glands can be found at the top of the kidneys, they are responsible for producing what are known as the catecholamine hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline. The gland is separated into two different structures which both receive information from the nervous system.

Adrenal Medulla.

This is the centre of the adrenal gland, it is surrounded by the adrenal cortex. Cells known as the chromaffin cells are the main source of the hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline. Both of these are water soluble hormones that come from an amino acid known as tyrosine. They are part of the body’s fight or flight response which works with the sympathetic nervous system. It lacks synapses and will instead release secretions straight into the blood stream this is important during the fight or flight response. It also produces dopamine and catecholamine.

Yes boring as hell and nothing to do with anything YAY
